Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park
Nice shot from Lone Pine. I've been to around 20 of our state parks, but have yet to get to that one that is less than an hour away from me. I guess I always assumed it would be packed. Need to check it out.

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News
I was afraid that would happen. Makes me sad. :( Me too. I remember when Glacier was only crowded in July and August, and even then it was manageable and you could get a campsite even on a holiday. It will always be near and dear to me, and it is what drew me to this area. Unfortunately I find myse...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News
I made the mistake of thinking I would bike GTTSR this morning for the first time. I made it to Avalanche by 7:00 (about 90 minutes from my place), and it was PACKED. There were people walking and on bikes all over the place. I made a loop through the campground, which is day-use parking now, and it...

Glad you're ok, too. Thank goodness for alternative means of cooking. I made coffee and all meals on our propane Weber.

Re: Current weather?
FYI We had a major Tstorm pass through at about 8am this morning. Power is still out in about half the county judging by the Flathead Electric power outage map. Gonna be hours, maybe a day or more before some areas have power again. https://outage.flathead.coop:8181/# It was quite the storm and rem...

Re: Sad News - David Parker has passed away
I am absolutely stunned. Since moving here, Dave always said we should get together, and we never did. Never pass up opportunities; another lesson learned too late. My deepest condolences to Debby and family.

Re: Article: Grizzly bear death rates on the rise
I'm glad to see the bears and wolves making a come back. Both are truly amazing animals. Seeing them is a real thrill.pete  I'm with you on this. I find it odd how many people in this area hate wolves with an absolute passion. I personally love when I find their sign in the area around our ho...

Re: Article: Grizzly bear death rates on the rise
East of the park is not the best habitat with people and ranching--not very bear friendly. Very true, but they are spending more and more time east of the divide. I follow Montana FW&P's "Prairie Bear Monitor" program and there are grizzly sightings far from public lands weekly, if not daily at tim...

Re: Current weather?
Yes it was. We lost some trees behind the house and it looks like a war zone around here. Glad that is over!daveparker wrote:Very tense day to say the least.

Re: Current weather?
Here in the Salish, we have trees rocking like I've never seen before (here). I don't have an anemometer, but I'd guess we're pushing 70+ mph gusts with a steady 20-30 mph. The snow and our drive is littered with branches, cones and needles. Slightly unnerving when you live in the woods. Power has a...

Future of Great Northern Brewery & Markus Foods unknown
It would be a shame if these closed, in my opinion. For those that don't know, these two buildings are separated by a narrow alley. It will be interesting to see what the new owner has in mind. https://www.kpax.com/news/local-news/flathead-county/future-of-great-northern-brewery-and-marcus-foods-is-...

Re: Current weather?
West of the Divide at 3700' in the Salish we've had very little snow so far this season. It was in the 40's and rained last week, which melted the last trace we received. Woke up this morning to about an inch, with more in the forecast for the next couple of days. We need snow. It's my fault. Bought...
