Re: 2021 summer trip questions
So far no one has mentioned Lake Francis. You could take the boat from Watertown and hike up to Lake Francis for a night, then the next day maybe go to HOL. I don't think the hike to Francis is too bad from the boat, hiking out from HOL might be a bit long but it's mostly downhill and flat. I don't ...

Great image ND! I agree those days where you didn't have to compete for a campsite or hurry to get to the park early were great.

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park
Pete,
Did you get checked out by a doctor and get xrays? A long time ago I fell hard on my back while running. I was in pain for a long time and regret not getting checkout and xrayed.

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park
I know there was a grouse that attached Jen and her group a few years ago near goat haunt. I wouldn't let them get by on the trail. It was a pretty comical situation from what I heard.

Re: Floral Park Traverse
Agree with others here. I did the traverse once in the right direction. When I got down to Mary Baker lake I knew I was commited to going the full distance, going in the opposite direction up to hidden lake pass is ridiculously steep. Obviously these guys were very fit but they did very little upfro...

Re: September 2020
Thanks for posting your trip report. It's nice to see and here about the park even though I haven't been there in years. The number of visitors in September kind of makes me wonder what kind of future the park will have.

Fun watching your video on the Highline trail! The bighorns were interesting as well as the fat goat. My favorite part was when you saw the pika. I haven't seen many of those in my travels. Thanks for posting for us who can't be there this year! :D https://photos.smugmug.com/Granite-Park-Chalet-Sep...

A few years ago I was up there hiking in mid August and it was snowing. So I guess you have to be prepared for any type of weather even in summer.

Re: Can't decide between two backcountry hikes, need help!
Also keep in mind that transportation logistics are VERY difficult if you get an itinerary where you begin at HOL and end at BOW or vice versa. Hitching is possible but that late in the year could be difficult.[/b] I think he's looking to do an in and out from Bowman lake TH. Hiking to Brown pass, ...

Re: Trail Runner Collides with Bear
A few years back, a trail runner nearly collided with me on the trail a few miles from Goat Haunt. She sort of burst through a bunch over grown bushes and surprised me as I was hiking. I didn't hear her coming. At the time, I thought it would have been a bad situation if there had been a bear there ...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park
I really like the first two images from your last post, Pete. They are definitely print worthy and probably poster worthy. I rarely see the air in Glacier that clear when I visit nowadays. Actually, the last time I saw a day that clear in Glacier was probably before 2010.

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News
Would you believe there were people TENT CAMPING at the head of the lake. I saw two, maybe three tents on that big gravel beach that is on the left as you view the upper end of the lake. I had my new wide angle lens, but it's sharp so I'll post a pic later. I reported it to a Ranger who notified th...
