Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Thanks for doing that so I don't have to!
I looked at using that trail as a shortcut to summit Haystack from GTSR. I collected as many descriptions of the trail as I could, but never got that far down on my to-do list as to attempt it. Good thing I didn't.
Bravo for surviving the escapade!

Re: Current weather?

That's actually been around for a while. I've found the forecasts for different elevations to be particularly helpful, especially at Glacier.

Re: Itenerary Help Needed - 5 nights, 6 days on the trail

3) If I end up doing gunsight pass or Kintla / Bowman, is there somewhere that I can find additional information on side trails off the park maintained trails to increase the mileage and see some great sights? 4) Are there any reliable shuttle services this year or should I just plan on an in and o...

Re: Itenerary Help Needed - 5 nights, 6 days on the trail

One more question - Are there any water shortages to be aware of at the higher elevations on the Kintla / Bowman Loop? Do the Boulder Pass, Hole in Wall, and Brown Pass campgrounds have reliable water sources nearby? When I was there in late August, the campgrounds had water. The hike between Bould...

Ouch. Like running into a furry brick wall. Glad she's OK. Not the safest way to enjoy glacier.

Re: Sad News - David Parker has passed away

Dear Debby, I'm so sorry to hear that Dave has died. What a terrible loss for you and your family. May his memory be a blessing. Being a member of this group has meant so much to me. And my husband and kids have benefited, too, from the epic family hikes at Glacier that we might never have experienc...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

That's a stunning photo, Pete. The water is perfectly blurred, yet crisp enough to be very interesting.

Re: Current weather?

All was fine until we were putting out on the 18th green and lightning struck an oak tree beside the green--maybe 20-25 yards from us. All eight of us went down like tenpins. To me, it felt like someone touched me behind the knees with a cattle prod. People in the clubhouse rushed out thinking the ...

Re: Current weather?

Got caught in a massive surprise storm on the golf course on Wednesday in PA. Absolutely nowhere to hide. Broken branches flying all around my buddy and me. Cart absolutely swamped with horizontal rain. We survived, but looked like drowned rats. 83 mph winds, I heard later. Warning system was non-fu...

Re: 2020 Backcountry Permits

I got approved for 2 nights at Gunsight Lake. This lines up with a 2 night Sperry reservation that we have for 2 nights afterward. The reservation is for the last week of July, so the idea is to change the second night at GUN to ELL, should ELL open up early. It will be interesting to see how thing...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Thanks for the compliments. Better to be lucky than good as I like to say. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time! :) Sorta like Tuesday night... I won ~$280 in a 1$-2$ no limit Texas Holdem game at the Montana Nugget Casino. Best hand I had was pocket kings on the button. I end...
