Re: Mountain goats

This is some video from July 11th 2019. The videos are long but part 2 shows some of the interaction of up to 8 goats in the woods just off the Hidden lake trail. Apparently squabbling over rights to lick the best places where humans had pee'd in the woods. It may be that the bears have learned how...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Late yesterday afternoon I decided to drive up to Logan Pass. The air had cleared out and their were good clouds--at least in the valley. Unfortunately, no clouds at Logan :( But, "Colonel Patch" my old billy goat buddy was eating flowers right by the visitor center. :D I've been seeing Colonel Patc...

Re: Xanterra Website Reservations Horrible

And to add insult to injury... The people at Xanterra management could care less about your troubles and frustration. Why? Because they know that demand is such that at the end of the day, every room will be rented for every day of the season. Oh they'll be really concerned and apologetic should you...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Thanks Ken for the vote of confidence. I know what you mean about "viewing distance"---and a couple of shots would look"ok" from arms length if printed large. That said, they would look better had I done a better job processing them. I'm still struggling with processing RAW files in Lightroom and Ph...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

That image is stunning Pete! You have really made great strides in your photography over the last few years. I look forward to seeing all of your photos and am so happy that you share them with us. Glad you printed that photo. It is wonderful! Worthy of the wall space in your house and also would b...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

And here's the related article on the Teton NPS site: https://www.nps.gov/grte/learn/news/group-causes-significant-damage-to-historic-hay-field.htm From the above article: Operating a motor vehicle off roadways is a violation and subject to a fine up to $5,000 and/or up to six months imprisonment. ...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

Haha Pete - fair enough and guilty as charged. Looking forward to more pictures. It's Ok my friend. I suppose I'm a cynic because I've lived here for 18 years. During that time I've watched how visitor behavior has gone downhill--at least from my perspective. The3 sad part is I'm afraid t...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

"Wilderness" permits? I hope you don't mean "non designated" permits. However, I feel the same way about permits in BC campgrounds in the closed areas. Yep - those ones :) Not the 'I'm going to camp on Lake McDonnald wherever I want' ones (like this story: https://flatheadbeacon.com/2020/07/29/unde...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

Don't blame them ... but wilderness permits would have been a nice compromise to access areas within the national park that are 'closed'. "Wilderness" permits? I hope you don't mean "non designated" permits. However, I feel the same way about permits in BC campgrounds in the closed areas. I have to...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

I had a lot of trouble in Photoshop Elements trying to put together the panographic images I made on Saturday. The one I'm posting below was made from five portrait oriented images stitched together. I couldn't make it work in Elements but Lightroom had no trouble making this pano. I'm glad because...

Re: Suspicious Fires in North Fork

The horse is out of the barn, but... They need to put a HIGH resolution video camera on that Polebridge entrance station and record every vehicle, including license number, that goes in and out. The Polebridge entrance is the only way in or out. Very good cameras are available and they are not very ...

Re: Current weather?

The weather here is starting to really suck here in Flathead Valley. Getting hazy from the heat. I'm not aware of any fires nearby but the environment is very dry. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=48.200531&lon=-114.31510200000002#.XyFhPudMGUl pete Heat Advisory URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

That is enough to scare the crap out of anyone! Certainly the goats and obviously the person making the video. Glad you were there earlier and missed that. I understand, but you see...I want to be present when those kind of events occur! I only hope I have my wits about me and my camera ready to ca...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Stunning pano!! Thanks :) Here is a goat clip I heard about on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/NBCMontana/videos/grizzly-bear-at-glacier-national-park/915105392232322/ That happened just an hour or so after I made this clip about 50-75 yards away at the beginning of the Reynolds mountaineering tr...
