Re: Many Glacier Hotel

Many Glacier Hotel won't be accessible this year since the park entrance to MG is closed.

Here's a map from GNP's page showing the open and closed areas in the park: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/ ... d-7-16.pdf

For the legend, I gave up on waiting for them to use the green icons to indicate trail open.
Are you referring to the trail status page? If so, the bullets are always red. They don't indicate trail status. It may be misleading, but in years of watching that page, they've always been red.

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

I just submitted this suggestion on the Glacier NPS site: Here is very easy way to significantly increase awareness of the traffic and congestion issues that you're experiencing at the west side entrances: On the main Glacier NPS page, instead of the banner saying only that part of the park is clos...

Re: Thinking Out Loud for 2020

Well, my Glacier plans have completely fallen apart. I canceled my Sperry stay because I didn't want to risk losing the deposit $$ if it isn't appropriate to travel in August. I also had to cancel my flights on United - they took away the flight from my hometown to Denver and put me on an impossible...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

The glacier lily shot is very nice - I've never visited at the right time to see them there. And I've definitely never seen such a clear view from the overlook!

Thanks for helping us all get our Glacier fix.

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

Would you believe there were people TENT CAMPING at the head of the lake. I saw two, maybe three tents on that big gravel beach that is on the left as you view the upper end of the lake. I had my new wide angle lens, but it's sharp so I'll post a pic later. I reported it to a Ranger who notified th...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

I'm just going by the July 13 map that zoezeppelin posted about 3 posts back. It shows that the Firebrand Pass trail will open on the 13th. https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/upload/GLAC_OpeningJuly13.pdf OK I see. The trouble is that just because the trail crew has cleared the trail, or the tr...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

Good for you making the best of the situation right now! :? Ha!! I hope so. 8) I'm going to make an effort to haul myself out of bed really early Saturday AM to drive to Firebrand Pass trail head at MP 203 on US2. It's about 70 miles from my place in Kalispell. That'll mean leaving around 3:00 AM s...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

New press release about what's opening starting next week : https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/news/media20-08.htm They also put up a date for backcountry permits - June 26, as well as some new procedures for this year. Yesterday, Xanterra announced that the Two Dog Flats Grill at Rising Sun Motor Inn w...

Re: Is lodging/food any better under Xanterra?

I only visited Glacier once when GPI was in charge (2013), but have lots of experience with Xanterra. Xanterra updated all the rooms in the park when they took over - I think the beds are very comfy, and rooms are nicer after the change. I don’t remember the GPI food, but I do like Xanterra’s offeri...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

I was just watching the West Entrance webcam - cars started lining up around 6:50 am (only 3 or 4), and it looks like they were just let in at 6:58. (There's another line up now at 7:20, but looks like the gate opened at 7:30.)

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

GNP just updated their "status update" page; Many Glacier Campground will be closed for 2020 - not enough staff is the reason they're giving. I'm sure that's really disappointing to everyone who had reservations - they are so hard to get! Fish Creek Campground won't open until June 26, St. Mary Camp...

Re: Sad News - David Parker has passed away

Debby, my condolences. I never met Dave, but certainly appreciate the work he did here. I've enjoyed this website very much over the past few years - especially reading the great number of trip reports that have been posted. I made a small donation in hopes that this site can continue to be availabl...
