Re: An Epic & Bearish Traverse
Tim, it was great to meet you and Laura. The logistics and trip plan execution (rides, rental car swaps, food caching, etc.) of the regulars here is exceptional! Your advice to skip Bear Mountain in favor of Margaret Lake was good as well. On the way to MOL, I crossed paths again with a couple guys ...

Re: Parking in Waterton - 2017
If I recall correctly, given that I was just passing through Waterton, they only charged me for one day entry. No extra fee for parking.teapot57 wrote:
But if there's a separate charge for parking your car there apart from the Parks Canada entry fee, I do not know.

Re: Parking in Waterton - 2017
Hey Scott, I had no problems parking a car in Waterton for three days last summer during my BC trip from Goat Haunt. You need to display a receipt they print at the entrance station on your windshield with the dates your car will be parked there. I parked on Waterton Ave in the cul-de-sac near the B...

Re: Bowman Lake to Kintla Lake, or vice versa
I looked into this route for my first trip to Glacier this past August. I settled on a 3 day, 2 night out and back from Waterton staying a night at BOU and then HOL. You do need a passport but you still have time to get one (if you do not already have one) and this is the shortest route to the highl...

I really like the REI Flex Lite chair. I only take it car camping, on short backpacks, or to music festivals but it is surprisingly comfortable and lightweight.isleroyaleguy wrote:Last year for us it was the Alight Mayfly camp chair. It was the first thing we would grab for when we got into camp.

Re: So what new piece of gear have you purchased lately?
I'm on my 3rd pair of Salomon Quest 4D II GTX boots. Heff936 told me about them a few years ago. They aren't heavy compared to the leather Asolos I had before. Pete, my weight comparison of the Salomon to what some consider a trail running shoe is completely unfair. Here's a good choice for you Tin...

Re: So what new piece of gear have you purchased lately?
I bought some Salomon Quest 4 II GTX boots. I took them on their first 5 mile hike in the park yesterday and they were quite comfortable. Though they are heavy compared to the TNF Ultra 109's I have been using.

Re: So what new piece of gear have you purchased lately?
My most recent purchase was not for me, but for my son. We got him an Osprey Exos 48 pack. I use the Exos 58 and really like it. It weighs half what most packs weigh and even the 55L small size swallows a hard sided bear canister. I wish the shoulder strap padding extended an inch or two longer to ...

I like the wildlife shots, too. Goats crack me up. If that goat standing in the middle of the trail could do it, he'd be giving you the middle finger.

I just watched the video and that looks like a GREAT hike, Pete! I will definitely plan on doing that one with Siyeh Pass as a plan B.

Than looks like a nice destination, Pete. Is the route fairly easy to find and fairly safe?
My Gaia GPS app shows publicized routes to Hidden Lake, Mt Reynolds, and a third destination. Is Dragon's Tail southwest of Mount Reynolds and slightly southeast of Hidden Lake?

Re: Solar Eclipse
While apparently not nearly as awesome as a total eclipse, this seems like a pretty cool thing to experience if you are in Glacier on August 21.
