Re: Glacier campgrounds

Well now it gets tough, no word from Glacier but I was invited back to host at ROMO and start July 15 to September 9 I have till March 1 to reply, suspect I will take it rather than hold out and end up somewhere else I may not want to be. (assuming Glacier doesn't call in the next 2 days) I still wa...

Re: Glacier campgrounds

UPDATE: So far only campground offered to anyone for hosting is Avalanche, but it has a big downside to me. I am right at 30 ft. but leary with no cell service and a 40 hour week as opposed to normal 24 to 28. Not sure how hey run a refrigerator long there either Also RV Pad Maximum vehicle length 3...

Re: Proposed Fee Increases

I like the call center idea, but based on how other National Parks operate that have a reservation system, don't see it happening, that doesn't mean you cant suggest it. In Texas the state parks (all have an online reservation system) you can't make a same day online reservation, but you can call th...

Re: Proposed Fee Increases

Like some others have opined, I also suspect that the NPS has pretty much made up its mind that it is going have some reservable and some same-day/walk-up sites at MG. The point I was trying to make with my Custer State Park story, and the question I'd still like to hear y'all's perspectives on was...

Re: Proposed Fee Increases

The park solution to overcrowding at ROMO was to put up electric signs daily that the bear lake parking lot and later in the morning the bear lake parking shuttle lot, is full come back after 2 PM . As a side note, the bear lake lot filled by 8 AM many days, shuttle lot bigger but still could fill b...

Re: Proposed Fee Increases

I'm curious what other people think of this kind of system and whether it might be a workable compromise for MG? 2. It's my understanding that the site (under NPS guidelines) must be occupied within 24 hours after the occupancy hour. Thus, a 3 p.m. Friday occupancy time means the site must be occup...

Re: Yaak of my dreams

Southwest goes nowhere near Glacier or even most of Montana does it?
I guess near is in the eyes of the beholder as it looks like Spokane might be the closest???

Re: Glacier campgrounds

So folks who stay in Waterton overnight and not pay cash have this also. From a little research some companies still charge fees so, I will research my credit cards between now and when I find out. To me the exchange rate is as important, if the dollar goes south again Canada may not be the place to...

Re: Glacier campgrounds

Cardston as in Canada ??? Yes but if you shop there you should get a good idea beforehand what items can be brought from Canada to the US. Fresh produce is usually suspect. Canned, packaged and frozen items are generally fine in my experience. Lyman Not only would I need my passport but probably Ca...

Re: Glacier campgrounds

We have Verizon. We considered getting something for tv and also wifi reception for ROMO but the satellite options for the few months we would actually use it were more than we wanted to pay. (New units start at $300 to $700) the cheaper versions have manual pointing, since I have never used one but...

Re: Glacier campgrounds

Terry, Are you talking about staying put in a campground for 8 to 16 weeks and not having a vehicle to travel around in? Good luck in your decision. Lyman Lyman, I will have a Ford F150 to get around, just wanted some sense as to where things are over a long term stay. One nice thing, on days off t...

Re: Glacier campgrounds

Re: Glacier campgrounds

Some interesting things they tell you as you apply for a park host (I have this for all of the host campgrounds in glacier) Think as if you will live in a trailer from May to September or June to September. Not just a few days or a week. Bowman Lake 48 sites (I am not applying) "Host site has a spig...
