Re: A Special, Final Message

Paul, you will be sorely missed. I have enjoyed reading your post over the past couple of years. In particular, the trip report for the northern loop. Actually read it three times. I have also used your FAQ a number of times. Thank you for all your help and contributions. Your contributions are grea...

Re: Well, finally had to give in...

In 2008 we built a new building for our business. Our building inspector forced us to drastically increase the snow load of the roof. Cost us a lot of money, which we weren't happy about. But, in 2010 we got 7' of snow in one snow storm. We figure that we had 1.8 million pounds of snow on the roof. ...

In 2013 Kalispell was twice the price of Great Falls for both the air fare and car rental. Will use Great Falls in 2014 again.

Re: Joybird's 2013 Trip Report

Joybird I have really enjoyed reading your excellent trip report. I love how insightful you are in finding great things along the way. It makes the trip report so much better. Hiking solo can be intimidating for some. I personally enjoy solo hiking the best. I have a great time hiking with friends, ...

Re: Xanterra East Side Shuttle 2014

The disappointments from Xanterra just keep coming. I was of the opinion that they should continue to expand the shuttle services and options. This appears to be a step backwards.

You can try googling triple divide pass and Dawson Pitamakon traverse under google images. You can also search this forum for trip reports for Red Eagle Lake, Triple Divide Pass, and the Dawson-Pitamaken loop. You could also start at the head of St Mary Lake and pick up Virginia Falls and St Mary Fa...

Re: 3-5 Day Backpack Trip Recommendations

Another couple of questions: If we did the Kintla to Goat Haunt Boulder Pass route, would it likely be open in mid-July; and how hard is it to get a ride or shuttle back to the car in Kintla? Simple answer, No. Boulder Pass and Hole-in-the-Wall route usually doesn't open until August 1st or later. ...

Re: why does Backpacker mag do stupid crap like this?

I know that BP magazine follows a lot of the hiking forums (like this one) looking for ideas of hikes to write about. They rarely go to the actual locations they write about. So, if you know a particular area well, the article is often confusing. You would think someone was drunk when they wrote the...

Re: happy to have found this board

Usually when the Rangers close a trail, it is for a very good reason. Like some unhappy grizzly bears hanging out on the trail, or a mountain lion near the trail. Some of the bears are GPS collared, so the Rangers know where they are. I suppose you could ignore it, and I suppose the Rangers can give...
