Permit Processes 2017

Postby joybird » Mon Feb 06, 2017 8:24 pm

Does anyone know if the application process is the same this year as last year? Can we pre-load our applications or will we have to do a mad dash to try to fill them out and submit them on the morning of the deadline? I just tried to start an online application and it wouldn't seem to let me work through the form they way it did last year. :?

Also, does anyone know if there are any special procedures you have to do if you are requesting more than one trip? Can you (try to) advance-reserve more than one trip (as long as you don't exceed the 14-night limit)? Will we be able to pre-load/submit multiple applications from a single pay.gov account?

I tried to look for answers on the Pay.gov website, but the instruction links weren't working.

Pay.Gov must be updating because I was able to successfully pre-load my application earlier today.

They have a link for step-by-step instructions that only seems to bring you to the back country application page. It seems like that's what needs fixing. I didn't apply last year so I'm new to the process too.

Ooh-- new to me as well, didn't catch that you can preload applications. Then it's just a matter of submitting at midnight or something? The official instructions were somewhat helpful-- but wasn't at all sure how to optimize.

:

Last year, after pre-loading my first trip, I tried to pre-load a second one. All it did was modify the first trip into the second trip. After a lot of frustration, I prioritized which trip I valued more and preloaded that one. Then on the Application Day, I sent in my first choice and then loaded my second trip from scratch. I think it took over ten minutes, but it was not a "popular" route and I got the thing done.

I was able to successfully pre-load 2 separate trips. You have to save the first one and then back completely out and start a new form.

I HATE that website rec.gov
An utter waste of taxpayer dollars.

I don't have the patience for that sort of incompetent gov't BS.
I'll just do walkups or nothing at all.
That'll increases chances for the rest of you, huh? 8)

I've got two applications pre-loaded and ready to go. This will be my first experience with the online applications. Now I've just got to remember to ready on March 15th!

Wow. That went a lot smoother than last year. Timestamp on my receipt was 10:00:57 (EDT)

Not sure it it was improvements to the site, or the fact that I have better internet this year. Last year it took me about four nerve-wracking minutes. I'll be curious to see how others' experience was.

I like that they didn't "lock out" the forms in the day or two before submission. Last year I freaked when that happened. And it made it much slower to submit your form on the big day.

Good luck everyone!

The pages took forever to load! Hopefully we all got in line early enough!
