LOL!! Looks worse than it was. My doc says my skin is old and fragile plus I take baby aspirin every day.
So every time I barely touch something I bruise and/or cut.
I usually hike with my stick in my right hand, especially if, as was here, it's my "downhill" hand.
I use my left hand to beat bushes, branches, and crap out of my way.
So my left hand has always taken a beating when hiking, or hunting...carrying rifle or bow in right hand.
All that blood came from a tiny puncture from a thorn, stick, I dunno. Didn't notice it until blood was dripping off my finger.
That's why I usually wear those work gloves now days. Too cold to wear them and I didn't think I'd need them.

tibber wrote:Nice to see the pictures altho it looked cold. A lot of burn area but that opens up the views. Nice pic of you up on the Ridge!

We stopped at Hungry Horse on our way to the west side in August and drove a bit around the side. We saw the osprey, saw them in 2012 when I also stopped by. Whenever I'm that close I always stop as my parents did in 1955 (I was in my momma's belly).

Thanks Tibber!
Yeah it was a chilly morning. The sun never really baked off the clouds. Thankfully there was very little breeze, even on top of the ridge.
I saw several osprey nests as we drove in. That reservoir is HUGE and I'm sure there are many ospreys breeding there.
The views are good once on the ridge. You can see the mountains for miles. The ridge runs several miles beyond where we stopped.
This is a good hike for the fall before too much snow arrives. You can't get back here in a vehicle after they stop plowing and gate roads, etc.
I might do it again if it was actually going to be a nice cool day with little wind.
Summer would be brutal "semi bushwhacking" that trail in the heat and bugs
. :(

Looks like you had a great hike in the Jewel Basin. I would like to do Mt Aeneas sometime. Thanks for sharing the photos!

Photobucket is a pain and I'm done with it. I found my old Flickr account so it's back to Flickr.
Flickr is ok but tedious to post images from it.

Since I won't be putting much, if any, content here anymore....
Here's what you need to do if you want to follow what I'm doing henceforth:

Click on my email icon and send me an email and include your email address in the body of your message
DO NOT try to send me a PM.
I have disabled that function.
I'll then send you links to images and videos directly.

"Lurkers" will have to
1)register here on the chat and email me, or
2) go to my YouTube site or Flickr site and try and contact me there.

The content I will be putting on Flickr, and especially YouTube, will include more than just Glacier National Park.
I'll be posting content on a variety of subjects---feeding my crow buddies here at home 8) ....to political/economic issues I have an interest in.

And while the GNP related material will be pretty much "non controversial"....
I'm virtually certain that the "snowflakes and tinkerbells" out there will find much of what I say about economic/political topics--- "offensive". 8)
Tuff stuff because I'm not in to "political correctness" and there are NO "safe spaces" in my world
Please keep that in mind if you decide you want to follow me and what I'm doing.

The next couple weeks are going to be somewhat busier than normal for me at work.
So I may not be doing much outdoors for a while.

A few snaps from Apgar Saturday October 21st.

You can still see several places where the Sprague fire is still smoldering.

Yeah, and that's just what's visible from Apgar.
It'll take a good heavy snowfall to end it.
Rained this morning and I had to work.

Squall now and very windy here in Coram. I'm on the way to the park to drive out to Avalanche. See what there is to see.

Pete,
I love your great photo;s and appreciate the on-the-spot reporting, it really helps for thus who are separated from the park to have locals who are willing to jump in their truck and run up to the park and get us some pics of whats going on real-time!

Hey Matt:

Thanks for the support. I enjoy getting out and around when I can to report what' going on---from my perspective.
I have some pics and video from Lake McDonald Lodge yesterday. I didn't get to Avalanche. Maybe tomorrow. I don't know yet.

The fire didn't burn down from Mt Brown towards the lodge nearly as far as I thought from looking at the fire maps.
It spotted in places down from the ridge line, but it looks to me like it was pretty much stopped AT the ridge line.
So good job from the fire fighters on that score. Maybe that will make sense when the pics and video are posted.
My Sony download program is not working at the moment :(

Bonnie and Clyde are fine. I didn't get to Avalanche because I was having fun with them.
Clyde's "halix" on his right foot doesn't look great. He limps, but seems to be coping with it ok.
So hopefully I'll have something later today or this evening.

I was going to ask about Bonnie and CLyde!! I've been trying to train some crows in my neighborhood to chase the woodpeckers away form my house!! So far no luck, although they have trained me to give them peanuts!!
They are interesting creatures!!
