camping other than campgrounds
Please excuse my naivete but can I camp while backpacking in areas other than designated campsites? A couple of the legs are a bit of a stretch for a single day. Thanks.
Re: camping other than campgrounds
The only legal place you can camp in the backcountry is at the campsites listed on your permit. You should read this page carefully.

Actually, the Nyack/Coal Creek area is steup for "Undesignated Camping", but it looks like because of the COVID stuff, they aren't allowing any "undesignated camping" this year.
I've never done it, but its my understanding that you still need a permit, and have to tell them roughly where you plan to camp.
But that is ONLY in the Nyack-Coal Creek area.
