Iceberg lake closure

Postby danlowery » Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:09 am

Noticed they closed iceberg lake trail from lake to ptarmigan junction yesterday due to carcass. Was hoping to do Shangri la and iceberg next week. I realize it’s impossible to know when it reopens but does anyone have insight and know how long a carcass typically shuts down a trail or know what type of carcass it is? Does park allow animals to completely devour carcass or remove carcass eventually?

Thanks

No way to know how long the trail will be closed.
Hidden Lake trail has been closed 6 days now because of a carcass.
Maybe we'll luck out and the bear will either finish eating it or drag it away somewhere.

It’s open now.

Hidden Lake Trail has also re-opened.

They must have just opened them.
Both were still closed when I posted at 12:23PM :)
Thanks because I was bummed out driving home thinking we couldn't do ShangriLa.

Off Topic but thinking about the recent Hidden Lake closure...
Last weekend when I was at the Hidden Lake overlook I saw the "broken horn" nanny walk from the overlook all the way to the Reynolds mountaineering trail all alone :( :(
The first thought I had was, "Oh no, a bear caught her baby and that is the carcass causing the trail closure."
Why else would she not have her baby close by?
Just a thought. If someone sees this broken horn nanny with her baby, please let me know.
