Jay,
You do have a problem. But spring will come and the snow will melt. 8)

There's a Christmas song that goes
Let it melt, let it melt, let it melt
I'll be there the 1st week in August. Hope the passes are clear

Here's the latest snowpack info as of May22.
There's still a LOT of snow to melt.

And a little too warm as well, eh? Temps well over 100 forecast for the plains east of the park.

Going to be ugly on the west side the next couple of days, but they are saying it will cool down and move the smoke out by the weekend, we were going out in the boat on Friday, but not now, I am not going to sit in a boat on a lake with no cover over my head chasing fish!

"Yuck" is about the best word I can think of to sum it up....and with no rain in the extended forecast.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm looking forward to the September "shift" in weather patterns.

Not unpopular with me. I've had enough "summer".
Hiked up to Apgar Lookout Tuesday afternoon when it was only about 90.
Smokey, dry and hot going up the long switchbacks.

This was yesterday going home. That is the KGPI control tower. I could barely make out the mountains across from the airport.
I hope Dave is right about the clearing out for next week.

Me too, Pete! I'm headed out this weekend to spend next week in the park. That haze doesn't look great. Really hoping it clears a bit!

Here's the forecast. Looks like next week will be cooler :D
Let's hope the air be less smokey as well.

https://forecast.weather.gov/product.ph ... glossary=1

The East side seems to be less smokey than over here on the West side.
Im out by the airport now and it's just like the picture above again today.
Hikers keep in mind that water sources in the park are drying up. So watch your water supply. The high temps and very dry air here make staying properly hydrated very important.
My neighbor's boyfriend just got back from his firefighting job in Idaho. BAD over where he was. Brutally hot he said.
Give those firefighters "High Five" when you see them.

Just left after spending 2 weeks hiking and backpacking in the park. Hot, dry, dusty. Cool, wet bandana around my neck helped quite a bit. (Hat tip to Angela.)
