Re: GNP Chat?

A number of the other comments on this thread reflect my own thoughts. My wife and i have been to Glacier only once. Hope to go again, but, approaching 70 and don't know if we will make it. But, when we did go, about 10 years or so ago, and I learned most of what I needed to know prior to that trip ...

Re: Charges filed in Mount Brown bear incident

Interesting that his plea is "Not Guilty." Since the charge is apparently "Discharging a Firearm," I doubt he could believe he is actually "Not Guilty." I could understand if he wanted to plead guilty, but make an argument that he had reason to "Discharge the Firea...

Re: G9: 8/28-9/14, 2014..."Back Home Again"

Toddnick, I really have to thank you so much for this report. It must be, I think 7 years ago now, that my wife and I made our only visit to Glacier National Park. Almost went back this month, but when the snows hit Going to the Sun Road, decided it was too late. Anyhow, when we visited, inspired by...

Re: one day hike in Waterton or goat haunt area

If it is still being done, the International Peace Park Hike (http://www.waterton.ca/waterton-glacier-peace-hike.cfm) might fit the bill for you. When we did it a few years ago, it was only being done once or twice a week. Lots of info about the park and the flora and fauna is imparted by both the A...

Re: A Special, Final Message

Hockey Ref: I am an irregular visitor to this page, so am just now discovering this thread. My wife and I have visited Glacier only once and we have never met you. But, I would be remiss if I did not thank you for how greatly you enhanced our trip with your enthusiasm on this forum, especially for, ...

Re: A taste of Glacier 8/24

Wow. You say the camera distorts it, but it still looks mighty scary.I have been up a few, I have been across what they call the Knife Edge on Mt. Kathadin, and your climb makes the so-called Knife Edge look like an open plain. Thanks for sharing this.

Re: Lodging by the month?

Thanks, all, I appreciate the information. Looking very much like our visit will be delayed until 2014, so will probably be looking for a months stay during that season. Looks like a VRBO or HomeAway arrangement will be the best way to go.

Re: One day in Waterton?

On our only trip to Glacier (so far) we did take a couple of days out to spend at Waterton. I can recommend the International Peace Park Hike (http://www.waterton.ca/waterton-glacier-peace-hike.cfm) as a Not Too Tough 9 mile hike from the Township to Goat Haunt with rangers from both parks. I think ...

Lodging by the month?

Long time since I posted here, but I still read the forum now and again. We have visited the park only once, for a week, several years ago, but we are still eager to return and do the hikes that were closed off by bears when we were there. I will retire in a few months, giving us far more flexibilit...

RE: Site slowdown

The moderators should not despair that the site is going unused. I suspect that there are quite a number of regular visitors like me. I have visited Glacier only once and was fortunate enough to discover his site prior to that visit, enabling me to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience...

Re: A Fly In My Ointment

As alluded to by Elscout198 above, and in addition to the many other excellent suggestions: Eat pie, eat a WHOLE LOT of pie! See the current issue of Sunset for a bit of carrying on about pie at Glacier (sorry, but I do not find it in the on-line version) and some other Glacier NP pointers. Though f...

Re: Third Border Crossing?

Mattb: In fact, there is a hike that will dovetail into that, though in reverse. When we were in Waterton, a few years ago, we did the "International Peace Park Hike," which is a hike from Waterton to Goat Haunt, led by an American Park Ranger and a Cananian Park Intepreter. You hike to ac...

Re: What? No Park Cafe?

Razzleberry, indeed. But, not just Razzleberry: sugarless Razzleberrry, for the diabetics among us. My wife got a whole sugarless razzleberry pie from the Park Cafe, and I really could not tell the difference in the sugarless and the sugar version. Sure would like one of those right now.

Re: Opinions Wanted!

Ref, you and most who have posted answers to your question are far more experienced Glacier NP hikers than I, but, I do have one comment based on our one week in the park 3 years back and my observation of the forum during the seasons since that visit. No matter what order you place Iceberg Lake in ...

Re: Polebridge Blugrass Fest

Don't know about Bluegrass in Polebridge, but there if you are into that high, lonesome sound, there is a Bluegrass Festival up at the Great Canadian Barn Dance site in Alberta, not too far NE of Waterton. A few years ago, we took a day off from the trails of the Park to drive up to the Hillspring f...
