Re: Floral Park Traverse

I agree Jay. Much better to do the hard stuff first. Those guys are animals. I doubt if I could hike that whole loop let alone run it. One thing to also mention is that Floral is one of the more dangerous off-trails in the park. Two people have died trying it. Its very remote and difficult to get he...

Re: Sperry Chalet Photos, 2020

Compared to the original, the soundproofing was 10x better! The floor between up and downstairs was still just 2 inch planking so soundproofing between floors was normal. Walls between rooms had some insulation for fireproofing but they looked the same. Lighting at night was definitely better. The s...

Re: Flying into FCA for GNP need2buy MSR IsoPro for stove

The Super One in CFalls has an aisle that sells dehydrated Mtn House food. I can't remember if they also have bear spray and fuel there also. Worth looking. I think its on the greeting card area.

Re: Backpacking trip outside of glacier

Another favorite of mine is the Mission Mtn Wilderness from the Seely Swan side. Lots of nice lakes to visit.

Re: July 2018

I saw that same fox walk right by me 5 feet away on the 20th at the Cutbank parking lot. He just walked by like he owned the place.

Re: Washing up at Granite Park Chalet

The kitchen sinks are as described above. They also have a small dry sink just off the kitchen where you can brush your teeth. Early in the season there is a small creek right below the chalet to wash up in. Later on this dries up though. Each "room" is supposed to fill up their room's wat...

Re: Gear Advice/List: End of July Nyack Trip

You should have a blast. You'll need water shoes for crossing the Flathead. Be prepared for downed trees to climb over. The trail crew doesn't get into the Nyack very often. Bring LAYERS for clothes to survive from 25 to 80F. Rain Jacket works for rain and wind. Leave the bear bells at the store, th...

Re: Lake McDonald Lodge--What's up?

Nice shot of Clyde. We went skiing up the road from Lk.McD lodge on Christmas eve and Clyde was in the parking lot to greet us. He wouldn't get any closer than about 10 ft from me though. Oh BTW, I confirmed the rocks were for Snyder Creek from a high up friend in the Park. They are worried increase...

Re: Which lookouts are staffed this summer?

Buck is up at Swiftcurrent again this year. The Park still sends food up to him once a week. He comes down every other week for some time off.

Re: 1 Hour Parking Limit

Keep in mind its just 60 spaces not the whole lot. I was up there Monday afternoon retrieving my truck after a Floral Park/2 night Sperry Chalet trip. It was a ZOO up there at the pass. As soon as I started walking toward my truck I'd get 3 vehicles following me and asking for my spot. People were d...

Re: Highline trail to Fifty Men

I was just on the drift on Sunday. Still not passable without crampons and ice ax. I'd say probably another week or so before you can walk around it if you dive off the trail before its REALLY steep.
