Cold weather-bag and pad

I need some advice for the trip we are taking next June in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. I am not sure what the weather will be in a month but not sure my bag or pad will be suited for the temps I may see. I may have to sleep in my coat & hat etc. Could I get by with purchasing two space blankets a...

Re: Way off topic

I am going to have to add that to my bucket list. Looks like you need to hike or take a bus to get to the lake and the hiking from there.

Way off topic

I found this photo and was wondering if anyone knew where it was? I have no clue. Kind of reminds me of the Grinnell Glacier trail but I know it isn't.

Re: Cloud Peak WY

Thanks for the info, it was great. I was wondering if they had specific spots to camp but it looks like I can just pick a spot. I think that I will try to camp somewhere above Mistymoon Lake so that I will have less miles on the second day after summiting. I didn’t think about the mosquitos. I maybe...

Cloud Peak WY

We are wanting to climb Cloud Peak in WY. We are looking for some insight on if the plan is doable. The plan is to arrive in Buffalo WY on a Friday to spend the night. Sat. early morning arrive at the Tensleep trailhead and hike to Mistymoon Lake for the night. Looks like you may be able to camp a l...

Mt. Reynolds

I am looking for some more specific details on how to climb Mt Reynolds via Southwestern Talus Slope route. Do I go past the Dragons tail before I climb up through the cliffs to the talus? Is the path visible once in the talus? Once past the talus, are there plenty of cairns? Do most people also cli...

Todd:

Looks like I am going to have to do some research. Most of the ones you listed I have never heard of.

Help plan my next trip!!

Looks like we are going to be back to Glacier this summer with some of the wife’s family. The good thing about an extended family vacation is that we will have the in laws there for babysitters when we want to hike some longer hikes. (our girls will be 6 yrs old & 16 mnths old). These are the hi...

Trip Report 8-3-10 Day 4

Woke up to a foggy/overcast day. After yesterday’s hike everyone else said they were taking a day off from hiking. We decided to give Sierra a day off from her pack also. They ended up driving to West Glacier for some shopping. We made it to Swiftcurrent parking lot a little before 9. There were ple...

Trip Report 8-2-10 Day 3

We decided to hike the Siyeh Loop on this day. I was very surprised the whole crew wanted to go after giving them the mileage and elevation gain. We were able to get to the trailhead right before 9. If we would have been any later I am not sure we would have gotten a spot. It helped that the trailhe...

Re: Trip Report 8-1-10 Day 2

We would tell everyone what we were doing the next day and if they wanted to come that was fine. I also made recommendations for hikes they could do. We ended up hiking to Iceberg, but I havent gotten to the day yet. :D

Trip Report 8-1-10 Day 2

We woke up at about 7 to an overcast/foggy day. My wife’s cousin, boyfriend, my wife, daughter, and I decided we were going to summit Mt. Oberlin. The rest of the party decided they were going to hike to Hidden Lake instead. We were able to leave much earlier than them since they have more people to...

Trip Report 7-31-10 Day 1

Bismarck to Havre MT the previous day. From Havre we got into the park around 2-ish. We were with my wife’s family. 3 campers including mine and 2 cabins sleeping 21 people staying at the St Mary KOA. As we drove into St Mary it started to down pour. It didn’t look like this would be a day for hikin...

Re: Granite Peak, MT, high point

I think that might true. I have did Colorado's and it is a hike up to the top but no climbing gear or scrambling is required. I would really like to do California's some day.
