Re: Making changes?

Thank you Tina, I have always been lurking. So excited to plan a Glacier trip again. My daughter and granddaughter are now getting into backpacking with us so we have to fuel that interest. We are taking them back to our first GNP trip. Late August we are entering at St Mary. Our itinerary is Red Ea...

Making changes?

Now that you have a backcountry permit,
What is the process and timeline to make any changes to your itinerary?

Thanks

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I retract my previous statement.
Looking yesterday at the Rec.gov site 3 of us were listed as "unsuccessful "
Yet today two of us have permits
March 28th and April 1st

Re: Glacier shatters June attendance record

We love Glacier so much, but the crowds are the biggest reason that we are hesitant to go back. The backcountry is wonderful but just getting around the park is such a drag. Its kinda sad to see such overuse in specific areas. We have really come to appreciate the roadless wilderness areas. Places l...

Re: So what new piece of gear have you purchased lately?

Last year for us it was the Alight Mayfly camp chair. It was the first thing we would grab for when we got into camp. I really like the REI Flex Lite chair. I only take it car camping, on short backpacks, or to music festivals but it is surprisingly comfortable and lightweight. We looked at the REI...

Re: Fishing in the Backcountry

I think fishing at Kintla can be great. I did manage a couple fish from the campsite area. Because if the size of it, I was hampered by the wind the short time we were there. If you have a calm day I know you would do well.

Last year for us it was the Alight Mayfly camp chair. It was the first thing we would grab for when we got into camp. Ahh! Back support sure helped in day to day recovery, which is key to long distance thru hiking. The ability to recover. This year I am ditching the traditional hiking boots for high...

Re: Fishing in the Backcountry

Great trip. We did that same route a few years ago, and I fished every chance I got. You have probably read my previous posts in your research. Because your shore fishing, ultra light spinning gear is the way to go. I use a multi piece 6ft rod, so I can reach out there. My favorite lures are the &qu...

Re: Links to Glacier Videos and Blogs

Here is a link to another great backcountry site.
The people are helpful and knowledgeable.
It covers a lot of different areas, but the Glacier archive is extensive with trip reports, videos and GPS info.
Highly recommended.

Re: Trail Angels and Mishaps

Love this thread Tina, And great story to start it out! With a message. I will go with trail angels. When planning our JMT trip, we were going to have to spend the night in the San Francisco area before catching the Amtrak towards Yosemite. So I asked the vast JMT online community where they would r...
