Belton Chalet bought

Hi everyone, I am not sure how many of you know, but I was checking my e-mail and received an update from Glacier Park Collection. Seems like they bought the Belton Chalet. Here is a link to their press release: https://www.pursuitcollection.com/Website/media/pursuit/Documents/Press-Release/Press-Re...

Re: Grocery store supplies

Hi, guys, Thanks for all the replies. I really am only looking for basic supplies, bread, cheese, mayo, deli meat, tomatoes... you know, basic sandwich kind of stuff. Also some milk and fruit for the kiddos. I appreciate all the recommendations. My biggest concern is how the kids will handle the lat...

Grocery store supplies

Hi, guys, It's been awhile since I have logged in, but I do lurk around picking up tips :) We are in the final stages of planning our trip to Glacier in 2 weeks. This time we will be coming with our 2 kids, 7 y/o and 2 y/o. I know in the past other people have been given the tip to shop at White Fis...

Re: Looks like West Glacier has been sold.

Well, that was a piece of news I did not want to hear  Now there is no place I will really want to stay at. I actually really liked Apgar precisely because it was not held in commercial hands. Now it will be one of the many places where one cannot make a reservation easily. I never got how peop...

Re: Trip report August 5-12, 2011

Day 5 – August 9, 2011 After having breakfast around 7 am at the restaurant, we headed for the Swiftcurrent Nature trail. First stop – Fishercap Lake. As we reached the side trail we saw a couple coming up from there who informed us that they had looked around but alas, no moose. The guy also told u...

Re: Trip report August 5-12, 2011

Day 4 – August 8, 2011 We ate breakfast at the restaurant and again the service was fast, the food decent (two veggie omelets). We crossed the border where a very nice Canadian lady checked our documents and waived us in. We bought tickets for the International and a few minutes later made it on boa...

Re: Trip report August 5-12, 2011

Day 3 – August 7, 2011 We woke up early again and got in the car to drive the GTTS road. The goal today was to enjoy the small trails along the road and beat the summer crowds. We had already done the GTTS the last time we were here but as we were moving from the west to the east side, it seamed lik...

Re: Trip report August 5-12, 2011

Day 2 – August 6, 2011 We woke up at 5 am but could not get out of bed in time for the sunrise to take pictures. In any case when we made it out there was fog across McDonald Lake so we would not have been able to make good pics anyway. Got in the car and started driving back to the West entrance of...

Trip report August 5-12, 2011

Hi, guys, I finally got around to writing a trip report. Since this is the first time I am doing this, I hope you will forgive me if I don't post pics at first. I am still trying to figure out how to do this best. For now, here is the first part of the trip. Enjoy. Day 1 – August 5, 2011 After arriv...

Re: Highline trail early August

Well, if I can believe Kevin from Granite Park Chalet, we may get lucky and be able to do the Highline trail after all. According to a new update to their website: "July 26, 2011 - Tuesday Highline Trail Status The National Park Service is informing us that headway is being made toward opening ...

Highline trail early August

Hey, guys, With our trip approaching I am starting to wonder what we will be able to do. I know that's the million dollar question and nobody can say for sure, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Based on your experience (those of you that are local and/or those of you that go to Glacier frequently), what...

Re: Sunrise over Lake McDonald

Thanks, Lyman, We were planning on stopping along the road, of course, as we did the last time we were there. I just wanted to find a different perspective that not everyone gets to experience. I know it's difficult to do in August, when the park's most popular, but we would like to avoid the crowds...

Sunrise over Lake McDonald

Hi, guys, I seem to remember seing a thread here that talked about a small trail somewhere behind Lake McDonald Lodge around the employee housing that has great views of the lake and since it's not known to a lot of folks, it's generally quiet. The poster talked about catching some really nice image...

Re: West Glacier restaurants report

ConradMT,
I would say so :) I really am not a picky eater, however, this was by far the worst meal I've ever had. It's hard not to remember it.

Re: West Glacier restaurants report

Maybe I am thinking of the wrong place but I vowed never to eat at West Glacier restaurant again the last (and only) time we ever ate there. We visited Glacier in September 2007 right around the time the GTTS was closing. The day it closed, so did Eddy's (without any warning). We ate breakfast at Ed...
