Re: Bike ride to Logan Pass & climbing Reynolds at sunset

Before our 2013 retirement trip to Glacier National Park I started following this site. I thoroughly enjoy watching the adventures you all have and appreciate your sharing with those of us who watch from afar. This was one of the best.

Re: GNP Chat?

Glacier was part of our marathon retirement hiking trip, two weeks in the Canadian Rockies, two weeks in Glacier, and two weeks in Yellowstone. Good times, great memories! There is something about grandchildren that pushes them to the top of the list, so most of our trips now are focused on getting ...

Re: Raising a Girl with Grit: a step-by-step guide

I remember falling when I put my foot on a piece of slick wood. As I was falling the words, "stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, kept coming from my mouth". There is that almost instantaneous I knew better than to step there and I did it anyway feeling. Glad to hear that the damage is repairab...

Re: Glacier vs. jasper and lake Louise.

Jasper and Lake Louise are definitely worth hiking, absolutely beautiful scenery, a glacier on every other mountain (not really but there are a lot of snow fields and glaciers). While the major attractions are set up to accommodate a large numbers of tourists, the crowds stick close to their cars or...

Re: Which Water Bottle?

Third year using a 3L Platypus Big Zip reservoir. I like it because it is easy to clean. My husband can't reach his hand into it - but I can. If I'm going for the day, I'll take the Platypus. If it's only a morning or afternoon, I use a 1 liter water bottle that I received at a Roosevelt Rendezvous ...

Re: Knee Problems

Just to add an alternative...I've had good results from prolotherapy on both knees. Had a series of injections 7 years ago with a refresher set each of the last two years. So glad to be able to hike without pain. I may be a slow hiker but I'm out there!

Interesting read

Dirt Work, An Education in the Woods by Christine Byl. Christy describes her sixteen years as a traildog using the tools of her trade as a starting point for her stories. Her first six years were spent in Glacier National Park in the North Fork, Sperry, and Middle Fork areas. I liked the book and th...

Hking GPS

I would like to start tracking the elevation gain and loss of my hikes along with the miles. Does anyone have a hiking GPS that they like for this? Thanks, Barb (just became a hiker when I retired: loved Glacier, Yellowstone, and the Canadian Rockies in 2013, and Yellowstone in 2014, currently plann...

Re: Well in addition to this webstie, I am starting a new on

The suggestion above includes filtering by activity, fishing. I would like to see a listing of the national parks or national parks by state. I didn't ask many questions for my 2013 trip to Glacier because the contributors have done such a good job. All I had to do was start reading and keep reading...

Well done, I need to experience some of those hikes through others because I'm not as fast as Todd and have decided not to be a backpacker. Already looking forward to your next trip.

Re: Rock 'n Roll Bakery in East Glacier Park

It is a small world. In August 2013, we exchanged greetings near Fishercap Lake with a very dirty hiker as he was returning from a back country climbing trip. After a short stop at the Swiftcurrent store, the same hiker was hitch hiking his way back to the Many Glacier dorms. It was Kent. We picked ...
