Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I don't think there will much scalping going on. I think most backpackers aren't really interested in that sort of thing... Paul Paul, I suspect at least some Backpackers would be interested if there was a "clearing house" for unused intineraries. Stubhub is an example of a similar concep...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Which forces out other 3 other applicants in the early permit process. So let's say that scenario happens... 4 members of a party all won a slot in the lottery. Assuming the member of the 4 that had the earliest time slot would pick an itinerary, what happens to the other 3. Could they get itinerar...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

We'll see how this works out going forward but I am surprised at the initial survey results. Nearly half the respondents did not get a slot. I was thinking maybe 25% at the most would swing and miss. Again, as I posted in another thread, I would be very interested in just how many applications were ...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Not the most intuitive thing to locate on the rec.gov website.

I too have "Satus: Unsuccessful" as my result under Standard Group Lottery (1-8 Campers)

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

...starting at your awarded date and time, you have unfettered access to make one reservation. Meaning that if you are awarded an access time of March 20 at 10:00 am, for example, you will have access to creating a permit anytime thereafter until the permits are gone... I agree that this (to me) ma...

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

I am trying to get my arms around exactly how this is going to work... Assuming a "small" group. On March 15th beginning at 00:01 Mountain Time until about 24 hours later I can submit an "application" for an "opportunity" to create an advanced backcountry reservation vi...

The Sharing Shack

The Sharing Shack is a place near Glacier National Park where one can leave Camp Stove Fuel or Bear Spray (or whatever) if it can't be taken with you on an airplane. If you use something from the Share Shack, a donation is requested. I became aware of the Sharing Shack via another post on this site....

Ranger insisted on keeping Vehicle Pass @ 2 Medicine

The oddest thing happened on September 7th at Two Medicine. We approached the check point with our printed out vehicle "Hall Pass" and showed it to the Ranger checking same. He then asked if he could keep it... Puzzled, at first I said yes but then asked, "what if we leave and want to...

Re: Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

Tell the backcountry desk that you are exiting at Goat Haunt when you pick up the permit. If you're leaving a vehicle at Chief Mountain they will also put that on your permit. Ear Mountain, Did all of that on September 4th when we picked up our permit at Apgar. Had a good hike into Gable Creek camp...

I also saw there is a "sharing shack" for coolers, bear spray, etc. Located just east of highway 206 and Highway 2 in Columbia Falls. Jay Currently 98F. Jay, Thanks for posting about the "Sharing Shack". I often have fuel left in my stove canister. This might be a good place to ...

Re: Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

So I am packing in preparation for my Chief Mountain to Goat Haunt Backpack. As I was doing this my subconscious mind popped up and said, "When you modified your itineary from GAB-MOL-GLH-GAB to GAB-MOL-STO-KOO did you change the exit point of the itineary from BRE to GSE?" To be honest I ...

Re: MOJ Camp closed

The backcountry status page shows Mokawannis Junction camp as closed. And I'm wondering if it was because of a problem bear. We encountered a problem black bear at GLH camp. It kept circling the camp and checking all the sites. At one point it was coming into the camp while I was walking out in the...

Re: Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

We traveled from Goat Haunt to Waterton this Tuesday August 22. We had no tickets as we didn't anticipate taking the boat back to waterton but the heavy rains changed our plans. The boat captain will took one credit card from our group at Goat Haunt and held it until we reached Waterton. Once in Wa...
