Ear Mountain wrote:There used to be a campsite at Medicine Grizzly Lake. I camped there two nights in 1973 and caught my first Montana trout there on that trip.

Thats awesome Ear Mountain!!

Do you know when they shut down the campsite by any chance? Any reason? Not enough demand?

Re: Medicine Grizzly Lake

Many thanks for a great trip report! I am putting together a list of some 'new' hikes to do on our next GNP visit, and Medicine Grizzly was one of the ones we were looking at. Your report seals the deal, so we will do the hike on our next trip, esp. since we have not yet visited the Cut Bank area! ...

Re: Dawson Pitamakan Pass Loop

Nice report TJ, I really enjoyed the pictures! I did this hike in reverse last summer, it never get old. By the way, Jersey isn't that bad since it borders my home state of PA. Thanks Paul! I hope all is well! PA is beautiful! I love PA! NJ has its spots and moments. I just do not enjoy the overall...

Re: Medicine Grizzly Lake

You now make your way up the Atlantic Creek Valley for almost 1.5 miles to Medicine Grizzly Lake. Thus far, the trail has been in some heavily forested woods and then you would pop out into some beautiful, open meadows. Well now the trail is really about to open up! RazorEdge Mountain really dominat...

Medicine Grizzly Lake!! This is an awesome, beautiful Lake! Great hike! I highly recommend this hike to anyone who has the time! It is about 12 Miles Round Trip, to the Lake and back out. Re: Dawson Pitamakan Pass Loop

Well done TJ. I haven't done that route since 2010. Nice to see your pictures of it. I think maybe the "dead animal" is a hunk of tree bark? 8) New Jersey, ah yes. I spent the summer of 1967 working and goofing off in Margate on the Jersey Shore. Most of the time in Maloney's Tavern on Wa...

Re: Dawson Pitamakan Pass Loop

Gotta ask - what is the dead-looking thing in picture #12? Bear? Optical delusion? :) BTW, born and raised in Jersey. I feel your pain. Hahaha. To be honest Sue, I have no idea haha :o :o :o I would remember if it was a dead animal however. It most certainly was not anything dead. Probably some roc...

Re: Dawson Pitamakan Pass Loop

The journey moves on... You now hike across a Saddle between Mt Morgan and I believe it is Flinsch Peak. Do not quote me on that. There are much more learned and knowledgeable chatters than myself when it comes to naming Mountains and such.. I do know this for sure though....you again get a view of ...

Re: Dawson Pitamakan Pass Loop

From OldMan Lake you start the trek and climb up to Pitamakan Pass. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/Babytjf413/P1050222_zpserja2p8z.jpg There is a series of Switchbacks headed up to the Pass. And you definitely work here! You gain elevation quickly as you switchback up! I would imagine that...
