Re: Red Flag warning for Western Montana

I was there for the famous August of 1992 snow storm that left about 17 inches of snow and closed down the park for a couple of days, so it can happen. Actually the weather here today is perfect and I think it is heading your way.

Re: Red Flag warning for Western Montana

Almost went up to Glacier this weekend and glad we changed our plans. I had 4 days off and instead headed up to Kelly Creek flyfishing. Thursday night we had thunderstorms for 8 hrs continuously and yesterday afternoon got a major hail storm on the way home. The area is in the Bitteroots, close to t...

Re: How has it been working for Xanterra

I spoke with an employee/waitress at St Mary Lodge, she had worked the previous two Summers at MG. She said she was glad to continue working for GPI and would not want to work for Xanterra. She stated that the pay, benefits and attitude were better at the GPI resorts. That is just one opinion, but a...

Re: Johnson's Campground Camping Cabins

Very nice review. May have to try them out. We camp at Johnson's in tents usually, but the cabin could be handy for many reasons.

Re: Gunsight Trail Status

We have the cousins of the marmots here in Idaho and they began their organization and attack on our local golf courses several years ago. Fortunately a few brave locals with good aim have deterred their plans. If the Gunsight pass crew begins their attack I can round up some experienced Marmot/Rock...

Re: Gluten Free Dining in the Park

I would suggest being careful about gluten free foods in the park. Most people who avoid gluten are gluten intolerant or gluten avoiders. Only a few people have true gluten enteropathy and are completely sensitive to gluten. Most of the restaurents have low gluten options, but I doubt they prevent c...

I think the deal on socks at the Army-Navy store was "/Buy the first pair at twice the price and get the second pair free."

Re: West Glacier

I have been up to the park for a couple of visits this Summer and it has been really quite busy, probably going to be a record setting season. You can still find quite in the early morning and late evening when driving through the park or at the pass. I avoid going over Logan at midday like the plag...

I would totally agree. The view is great, the service is usually good and the food is variable. If you like pork you gotta try the roast pork shank. It was tasty and massive. I was stuffed!

Re: Shuttle from Swiftcurrent to Logan Pass

We had a good experience with the shuttle this week. We left Swifcurrent promptly at 7:30, picked up more passengers at Many Glacier and were in the St Mary visitor center in time to catch the 8:30 shutttle. The van seats 10 passengers, don't know how many are alloted from each location but you can ...

Re: Eddy's in Apgar

Yes, two of us had burgers arrive without mayo but we didn't get any extra charges. I don't think Easter Europeans know what Mayo is used for. Yup, most of the wait-staff is from there. The staff was very polite, prompt and enthusiastic.

Eddy's in Apgar

We had lunch at Eddy's this week and as usual the food was good. Nothing new here, same stuff as before, no apparent changes. The ice cream selections were less than before but the cones are ample and the location next to lake McDonald is tough to beat.

Re: Park Cafe Reopened Under New Ownership

We were in St Mary this last week and drove by many times. It was never really busy, even during peak hours. I guess the word travels quickly. They will survive just because of the limited competition. It is still a great loss in the world of pie.

Re: Two Dog Flats cafe

My daughter is very picky, the whole wheat pasta was her best option and I thought it was good. The pork shank was actually fantastic. The burgers were burgers, no dissappointment, just burgers. The chocolate cake and ice cream was good and massive. The huckleberry Chia pudding was really good, just...

Re: question on carrying a gun

This week I was in the Swiftcurrent store and a young man, about 25, possibly in law inforcement of some sort based on his attire was packing the biggest pistol I have ever seen and I live in Idaho where you can carry guns on college campusses. I was tempted to ask what he was planning but didn't. B...
