Okay this is probably a dumb question, but it seems like it should be an option! I know NPS is concerned about the overcrowding with car traffic, parking at trails heads and Logan's Pass, etc. which is understandable, thus the new ticketing system. But is there any discussion/possibility of parking ...
ah, I see. That is sooo disappointing but we will make the best of it. It will force us to explore Two Med and Cutbank further. I tend to fall back on Many Glacier hikes, they are incredible.
Thanks SO much for the info, so helpful! Really appreciate the response.
We are hoping to hike Iceberg Lake and Grinnell Glacier in the Many Glacier/Swiftcurrent Area; Morningstar Lake starting from Cutbank campground, and one of the waterfall hikes around Two Medicine Sept 23-28. Two questions: 1. Looking at info on the GNP website, it looks like the road to Many Glacie...
Hi Glacier friends! I had hoped to visit GNP this summer, it’s where my heart belongs. Not gonna happen with the tragic fires and air quality, so heading to the Tetons. The friend I had planned to hike with was injured, I’m on my own. So looking for a chat like this to connect with other hikers visi...
Pete -- Thanks for replying! I'm afraid I might slow you down on a climb -- during my college years I climbed many of these peaks, and though I still have the stamina, my knees seem to think it's time to give up peak-bagging! Coming down is killer for me. If you end up doing any hiking or mixe...
I don't post alot, or get on here much, but I'm in the park until the end of Sept. and could use some hiking company! I've been in the park for a month and have been hiking on my own--it's worked so far, as I've done busier trails and bumped into great company, but would like to do more remote stuff...
Awww SwampRat! So fun to see your trip report - you have some amazing shots here, you need to start a Glacier Gallery and get some of these framed. Glad you got to hike with Todd, and Ptarmigan is one spectacular hike. Makes me cold just looking at those pics, even here in Florida! Please say hi to ...
Whoa, Todd! Hard to believe this is the same Cutbank that we encountered in bright sunshine last September. The snow is beautiful, but glad we had the blue skies and warmth that day. I agree with Heff, easy to get lost in the snow, I've done that a time or two in Glacier and the Cascades -- and it's...
Amazing pics Todd. Especially the one of the chalet with Heaven's Peak looming in the background, just had to shake my head at that one, just incredible. No better way to introduce newbies to the park than this.
Seriously, am I the first to comment on the 2014 Trip Report?? Seems like I should win some kind of prize for that - a package of hummous or something.....
Ahhh, fun times, I will be checking in daily to see what is to come.....
I thought I might get a reply from you! No doubt the experience is not the same, though probably more comfortable for those of us that could nearly be classified as raisins (raisins in denial, mind you...)
I worked for GPI in it's first year carrying the concession contract - 1981 - at the front desk of Lake McDonald Lodge. And returned in 1982. I toy with the idea of returning, now that the employee demographics are not made up entirely of college students, as was the case when I worked there. Any fe...
