Re: 2021 Season Opening News

I’m gonna make a fortune this summer! On days that I have an entry ticket, I can shuttle 6 people in to the park from West Glacier and drop them off at Logan Pass, and then pick them up and shuttle them back a few hours later. I think my one way rate should be $30/person one way, so $180 cash for th...

44 degrees and rain right now, and expected the same all day. Low clouds. Camas Road is supposed to be closed to biking due to resurfacing. Biking past McDonald Lodge is only to Logan Creek, due to trees down from the storm a week ago. I’m guessing most visitors today won’t stay longer than an hour.

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

This is not good news for Glacier National Park. No way anyone can drive the GTTS road across the park before July 1st. https://www.ktvq.com/blackfeet-tribal-officials-extend-covid-19-restrictions Sure you can drive all of GTTS ... just make a U-turn before you exit the park at St. Mary. :D Typical...

Re: New West Glacier cell tower

Getting back to the topic of visual impact of the cell tower .... I find having my street (and surrounding streets) lined with telephone/power poles and wires more visually unappealing than a single cell tower camouflaged as a tree — unless of course it is in my next door neighbor’s yard. I am certa...

Re: Flying into FCA for GNP need2buy MSR IsoPro for stove

Kalispell Walmart is open 24 hours. They have groceries, almost certainly have fuel, and probably have bear spray. You can call them to confirm whether they do. Or call some of the gas stations near where you are lodging. Most are open 24 hours and probably carry fuel and bear spray. I suspect most ...

Pete,

Would have liked to join you up in Polebridge instead of spending the day removing ice dams on the roof.
Priorities y’know.

The photos are spectacular as always, but then again the North Fork really is a special place.

January video of Sperry and the Park. https://www.instagram.com/p/BtEHYtmnRR4/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet Absolutely amazing what was accomplished last summer. New foundation — 300 lbs of concrete dropped every 15 minutes by helicopter for one long day. First and second floor installed, mi...

3 or 4 inches in West Glacier. Another half an inch fell while snow blowing the driveway (it is a big driveway!)

I’ll be generous and call it 3 inches in West Glacier last night ... enough to put me on snow blower duty

Re: 2019 "Snaps" Around Gracier National Park...plus

Pete, I think Big Prairie would be an excellent out and back on skis. (as long as the wind isn't too bad). You'd have a decent chance of spotting some wolves up that way too. Conversely, a large pack of wolves have a decent chance of spotting you too! :D Once the road is less icy I’m all for a trip...

I have this ResQLink device that my sister "jawboned" me into getting 4 years ago since I go out alone frequently. 8) The "system" this device utilizes is the best in the world. More details here: https://www.rei.com/product/843146/acr-electronics-resqlink-gps-personal-locator-b...

Re: Beartooth Bear Attack

The injured hiker is the brother-in-law of a friend of mine. We’ve traded a few emails regarding the incident. Sometimes you are simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a close call, but appears it turned out well all things considered. I did mention that I carry my bear spray on my back...

Re: Proposed cell tower - West Glacier

*sarcasm on*
Without cell service in the park, how is one able to post complaints about the outrageous $70/year annual pass cost?
*sarcasm off*

Annual park pass cost pales in comparison to cell phone cost, and in my very humble opinion provides far more enjoyment.
