Dave, I am so sorry for your loss. There is nothing that can be said to lessen the pain. You are in my prayers. I met your dad at the gathering you had in July of 2008. He kept us entertained with his hunting and safari stories. He made the gathering even more special.

Got a new pair of hiking boots at REI today. The place was a mad house, but the sale was worth enduring the chaos.

I believe that the National Park Service does a great job it trying to educate visitors on bear safety. Signs are posted at nearly all trail heads, pamphlets given to visitors at the entrance stations, and even food safety recommendations stapled to the picnic tables in the camp grounds. The infamous "magic shower" that ran forever without a token which I have used since 2009 was no longer magic!!!
