Re: Big fee increases may be in the future...

Did they up the senior pass as well? Not that I qualify. It's great for seniors but I always scratched my head at a $10-lifetime pass once you hit 62. The senior pass for United States went up August 28th to $80 for a lifetime pass once you hit 62. A steep increase from the previous $10 rate but st...

Re: Sprague Fire

Wow. I know the hurricanes have dominated the news, but we've watched a lot of it (family in FL on both sides, and in NC we were potentially impacted for awhile) and I swear I've not seen 1 single bit of fire coverage. Oh and Pete the photos of the scooper are so interesting to see, thanks for posti...

Re: August '17 - Glacier's 2nd busiest month on record

Wow, the spike since 2015 is huge. That is the year I moved here.... perhaps this is all my fault?     For some reason that reminded me that I saw somewhere that John Mayer has a place in Montana and that also reminded me of how I recall Mindy Kaling took her writing sta...

I just pulled the JUN/JUL/AUG numbers from that (cool) spreadsheet.

still looks like a big spike in the last 10 years...to me anyway.

Re: The burning of Sperry Chalet

Again, I'm admitting my ignorance in advance, but aren't some of those specific programs funded by grants? From glacier's research webpage: The primary research partner for the National Park Service is the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) I realize this is a very sensitive subject, so I hesitate to chi...

Re: August '17 - Glacier's 2nd busiest month on record

It looks like the visitation for June/July/August has doubled in the last 10-12 years though. 10 years ago we were in PA for a funeral and we ran into my husband's old HS teacher/coach. He and his wife had just returned from a trip "out west" that included Yellowstone/GTNP/Glacier. He said...

Re: An Epic & Bearish Traverse

That's still nine miles though, right? I wouldn't run through Glacier alone at dusk for anything... I'm with ya. That route took us a little over 5 hours to hike (with full packs) but I sure wouldn't want to do it at dusk. Impressive feat however. Has to be close to 50 miles and lots of elevation g...

Re: Smoke?

The webcams today look awful -- everywhere . I feel so bad for the local people dealing with smoke and terrible for those visiting.

Re: A First Timer's Trip, August 4-12

I think it was Room 19? It was 2nd floor and faced the rear of the building. It's very strange to think that we were the last people to stay in that room (unless firefighters did). I guess we can say we were they last guests to stay there....and that it is gone is very very strange. In fact, we've t...

Re: Too Many Visitors!

This is one the major reasons I don't shoot professionally any more, can't make the money I used to and I am competing with everybody that has a smart phone these days. Just today, a popular instagrammer (and someone who recently left his regular job for full time photography) posted the DM he'd go...

Re: Too Many Visitors!

I can't get to that site from my work PC, so I tried to read on my phone. It's a long article that I'll revisit when I'm at my own PC, but what I read thus far is exactly what we're talking about with examples.

Re: Too Many Visitors!

I am just saying, don't assume that because you see an image taken on the banks of Avalanche lake with a tent in on instagram automatically jump to the conclusion that it was done illegally. Thanks for the info. If the parks are endorsing ad campaigns that tag locations (or are easily recognizable)...

Re: Too Many Visitors!

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Instagram, but there is a very wide range of content. It's pro photographers to hobbyists, to wannabes. Many people tag brands in their photos because they are considered "influencers" (or want to be such). Just like the advent of digital photography ...

Re: Smoke?

I don't have advice for you (not local, not expert), but here's a website that has a few maps you may want to review with larger scale maps.

http://wildfiretoday.com/2017/09/05/wil ... er-5-2017/

It's got graphics, satellite maps, etc.

Re: Too Many Visitors!

That's the one -- you did not sleep here -- something like that. Even if people don't repost themselves, they tag all those aggregators and get reposted there with huge followings. In fact, now that I think about it, the photo near Glacier Point was from one of those (can't remember if it was The Ou...
