Hwy 2 Camping

We’re looking to tag on a few days to an “East side of Glacier” trip this Sep. I’ve seen the camping along Hwy 2, but never considered it. We’ll be in a small travel trailer. I’m looking for recommendations along Hwy 2 or maybe the east side of Flathead. We don’t want to drive too far west since we’...

Re: September 2021

If I'm able to drive you rental car, I might be interested in hiking from MG to Logan during that time frame. (So you could drive to Logan and I'd bring your car back to MG.) I've never hiked MG to Siyeh Pass, so I hate to commit to that, but I have done MG to Logan with a side dish of Grinnell over...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Nice shots Pete. Sounds like McDonald will be swimming temps soon. :D

Can’t believe 30 people were up there before you....oh yeah, I think we saw that coming. How was the parking lot when you left, and what time was that?

Re: Grand Teton Park May 21-26, 2021

I realize the fox and black wolf may be "lucky sightings," but I'm wondering how you're finding the bears. Through experience? Are you following newsgroups that say bear 399 is hanging out frequently at the corner of 5th and Vermouth, or maybe something else? I seem to keep finding buffalo...ok biso...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

I’ll respond again just because not much is going on here. So, you kicked a sand hog, but I did the next two. When you hit your head into something solid, even at low speed, it knocks you dingy. Then I was really happy it was low speed as in moving my head and not walking. We didn’t used to have AC ...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Sometimes you go through life on autopilot. Other times you kick a sand hog, drop a cobble stone on your finger, or run your head into an overhead rock. Whad’ya do? After a few seconds of figuring out what the hell happened, you get up, clean up the blood, swear some, and be thankful you didn’t real...

Great stuff Deb. I only had time to look at a few of the links, but I'll be back.

Makes me want to start searching for campgrounds next year.

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Guess I missed a month of posts on this thread. It's good to see some activity and photos. I'm curious to hear about Leaning Tree. Probably five years ago we looked at Duck Lake Campground, and the sites did not seem level (sloped towards the lake) and it felt too isolated. As I look at a map, we to...

Great stuff and good to hear you got a van. Our neighbor just got what looks like an Amazon van. I’m in the mode of updating the wiring in our camper for some additional solar. (Haven’t bought the panels yet, but I have a good idea of what I want.)

Re: Avalanche traps cyclists on Sun road

I remember the old days when we used to just bike across avalanche fields on road bikes with no helmets. :D

One of these days I’ll have to get out there before the road opens and ride to Logan Pass.

Re: 2021 Season Opening News

As for an alternative, the only thing I can think of is raising prices. If someone has decided that’s off the board, it’s really hard to control the crowds without simply closing the gates and bussing everyone, or counting cars.

I’ll have to check out riding the bike with a pack. :D

Re: 2021 Season Opening News

They didn't sell out within 10 minutes, they "sold out within minutes" for June according to the link. I translate that to within 2 minutes. Basically everyone was waiting to hit enter, and a bunch of people ready and waiting to hit enter didn't get a ticket because the servers couldn't handle the v...

Re: 2021 Season Opening News

Regarding ticketed entry. I think it's easy to see what happens. -People show up at the park and have no idea about ticketed entry. They get mad and if they're in line, it'll slow entry. -They'll show up the next morning at 5:30 am. -By mid-July, Logan Pass will be full by 6:00 or 6:30 and the peopl...

Re: Good News For Photographers

My understanding from past readings was that if you looked commercial, a ranger might stop you and ask if you had a permit. If the ranger asked, you needed it. Lots of people were pissed about that. So you have a soft box with a flash and you're taking pictures of your wife...just to keep Pete's int...
