Re: Northern Traverse 3

Hey Blanka. Haven't seen that name for a while. Paul, it's been a week or so since I read the report. I can relate to hiking up Boulder into the sun, the bear in Kintla, hanging out on the beach and the long hike out. It just seems like a lot of roots to step over and then hitting the wrong trailhea...

Re: Northern Traverse 3

I'm enjoying the report. Since I try to be efficient, I can understand the frustration with the ranger at Two Med. Arrg. Loving the pictures and actually I like the one of (must be) Jason and the fish. Actually, I'm liking the photos with people, maybe to get a feel for the personalities on the trip...

Re: August Hiking in Glacier including Three Falls Hike - August 2022

So far, I've enjoyed the report. (Need to finish.) I never knew there was a KOA nature trail, although I've only been there for fireworks.

Seeing people jump in St. Mary makes me a bit nervous. Guess I'm old.

Re: Ranger Lyle Ruterbories passes

Thanks Paul. You and I heard the same story, and I may have heard "32 miles" since they also did the spur to Hole in the Wall. To do that in your 70s.....man. I looked at trying to do that and it's pretty intimidating since you can't carry much if your legs or feet give out.

Re: Ranger Lyle Ruterbories passes

Paul, I thought the same thing for many years, but when I read the article, I got the feeling he was ferried by boat to the head of Kintla and picked up from the head of Bowman. Still, a long day.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Ranger Lyle Ruterbories passes

He was a force in the campground, and I feel lucky to have met him. Great guy and funny.

My trip report from 2013 mentions him and the WI women.

Re: 2021 Random photos

Thanks. One of these days, I'll get back to playing with the photos. We just booked a big trip over a large ocean for March. Lots of work to research that one.

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Ms. Teapot. Quite a story about the bear spray. Good job bolting, oh and love that photo. As for the boat line...one time Julie and I were waiting for a shuttle at the loop. Julie was cooked from hiking in the sun and we were out of water. One of the last guys in line was dressed like a ranger, and ...

Re: 2021 Random photos

A few years ago I scanned (low res) a bunch of negatives just to see what I have. Here's a couple from the first trip to Glacier in June of (I believe) the early 90s.

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Ms Teapot. Thanks for the update. I know it's time consuming. That last pitch to the tunnel looks steeper than I remember, but when I did it, I had a daypack. I'm sure a big backpack changes the look of everything. I texted and emailed Pete last week. (No answer.) I also tried calling and it went im...

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Teapot, I finally got to reading the last section of this report. It was quite interesting with the goats, mosquitoes, whine, and not waking the dead. I'm just surprised at the mosquitoes since I've never had a problem with mosquitoes out there (one thing I like about Glacier). I'm not surprised at ...

Re: A Whole Summer in Glacier - 2022

I finally finished the trip report. Well done and I enjoyed it. Just a couple comments. -Early in the season, instead of crossing the Iceberg outlet stream, (with Pete) we hiked along Ptarmegan wall (other side of the small lake) and then along the lake to get to the "normal" lake spot. I'...

Re: A Whole Summer in Glacier - 2022

Wow, I'm up to June 18th and loving it. I don't think anything like this (a very long trip report) has ever appeared on these pages. Well done (in retrospect and advance). Hiking really does revolve around the bridges being put in place and waterproof boots. Just filled up the tires with air (curren...
