Re: Lost post content poll

Just joined the "The solution you provided was incorrect" club! On a PM. I took awhile to write it, so perhaps a timeout? Although I wasn't prompted for credentials (nor captcha). Chrome.

Re: Backpacking between Granite Park Chalet and Sperry Chalet

I think you’re correct that you’ll struggle with the permitting system if you just try to grab MAN-REY-ELL or something like that due to the ‘can’t be the first or last day’ and ‘trips of more than X days’ constraints on MAN and REY, the system isn’t really setup for a hybrid itineraries, although ...

Re: Lost post content poll

I voted no, but ‘before Kyle era’ (BKE) I do recall many posts being lost to the ether. It seemed like a sever failed to replicate then switched over. Haven’t seen that KE. Echo the thanks to Kyle over all the housekeeping and improvements going on behind the scenes.

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

I've refreshed the backcountry site dependency information. It looks like many fixes were made (good!), but a few errors remain and one new one was created (bad!). One critical error remains I believe and that is not being able to have Many Glacier as a first night of an itinerary (or Reynolds, or T...

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

Thanks for reviving this topic Scott. My summary would be: same as the old lottery system except you’re doing the reservation instead of the ranger. Some good contest opportunities here with # of applications and release schedule. I’d guess they limit releases to standard working hours), but 7 days ...

Re: Front Country: 2024

An update, I setup alerts with the following systems: Campflare Wanderinglabs Rec.gov API minutely query The target date is Friday July 5th, which I chose as the the hardest date to get in my opinion with the holiday in high season. I'll report on results if/when they come. One thing I noticed is wh...

Re: Front Country: 2024

Mildly related, I have been contemplating an availability checker / notifier for chatters that are interested. There seem to be a lot out there already, so maybe not needed (don't re-invent the [free] wheel), but it had me curious as to the frequency of these services. So I'm thinking to do a 'shoot...

Re: General site updates

Hey gang..... Just a quick update.... The Backcountry Site Detail information section is getting setup. It can be found in the "Extras" section or the big menu across the top. . There's currently only data entered in for 4 sites, but more will follow.... It's currently integrated into the...

Re: Backpacking between Granite Park Chalet and Sperry Chalet

Back to the matter at hand, 5 nights later I assume means 4 camping nights. You could do a northern circle, but as you mention that would really be pushing it. Other option would be an ‘out and back’ from Many Glacier (Elizabeth, Cracker, Red Eagle, Poai), or taking it slow on Gunsight Pass, perhaps...

Re: TR: Summer in Grand Teton National Park, 2023

Very nice - my favorite section of the park up top there. I’ve never come from the north, so it was nice to see cascade canyon straight on. General comment is that the lighting has been so nice in the majority of your pictures! I really like the half-ice/snow lakes in the sun with mountain backdrops...

Re: TR: Summer in Grand Teton National Park, 2023

Al, I want to keep cheering you on each post, just epic in totality. Did you go up static peak ? Ah, skywalk, that makes sense. I was wondering what that was when I saw it, but had since forgotten about it. I swore it wasn’t there last time. I was thinking counterbalance for the tram or some old min...

Re: Backpacking between Granite Park Chalet and Sperry Chalet

Hi Brian, welcome! That indeed is a nice score with both chalets with a short (hikeable) gap in-between. Your first route was actually my first trip in Glacier. I found it on a Trimble website, entitled ‘highlights of Glacier’ or something to that extent. Absolutely incredible. I think you’re correc...

Re: Glacier 2023: One of the fortunate few, Pt 1

Really nice Jay! Thanks for compiling and sharing. That is great you made it to Margaret. I really liked the Pyramid Peak pictures (I’m a sucker for those) and also the shot back down Glen towards the east. So what was the final sheet count- hopefully a surplus? What is your wide angle lens / recomm...
