MOJ Camp closed

The backcountry status page shows Mokawannis Junction camp as closed. And I'm wondering if it was because of a problem bear. We encountered a problem black bear at GLH camp. It kept circling the camp and checking all the sites. At one point it was coming into the camp while I was walking out in the ...

Re: Fishing

thanks for the update Lyman. I ended up not taking fishing gear with me on this trip. In the end I didn't want to over complicate things. I noticed fish jumping at Elizabeth lake and at one point at Cosley lake. No other lakes seemed to be very active. Although the wind was pretty severe during my t...

Re: NPS Survey- 2023 Public and Stakeholder Engagement

Just got back from a 6 night backpack in glacier. As far as permits go I think there's still no-shows that are using up 25-50% of the camps. Every camp we stayed at had an open site except for the last night which was on a Saturday. Here's the breakdown. ELH - 1 of 4 sites was not used. HEL - 1 of 2...

Wolves chasing moose and calf in Belly River area,

Saw this on youtube. I think it was taken recently. It's somewhere near Elizabeth lake head camp. I'll be there next week.

If that's true I guess they got the fire under control.

Re: General site updates

That looks quite nice on my screen, Kyle. Thanks for the updates.

I noticed that HOL is in Yellow status. Does anyone know the reason why?

I always liked the last (4th) site from the food prep area. It's the most private and has plenty of room.

Re: Fatal Bear Attack near West Yellowstone MT

It does seem like Yellowstone bears and Glacier Bears differ. But in this case, She was trail running and probably making very little noise when this happened. And it was a sow with a cub. Same thing could easily happen in Glacier.

That rainbow photo is one of the best I've seen in the park. Maybe you should enter it in a photography contest.

Re: General site updates

Hey Kyle, Not sure I like the new format of the BC availability page when I view it on a regular browser. (which is pretty the only way I go to that page). It's all squished together and looked much better prior to the change. Can you detect the client and format based on the client browser/platform...

Re: Belly River to Granite Park Permit Available

In the past, when I gave my permit to a friend all I had to do was call the backcountry office and tell them I wanted to give the permit to someone. I gave them his name, number and email address. I believe they might have asked me for some kind of verification that I was who I claimed to be. I'm no...

Re: Backpacking camp chair?

I've never carried one of these on a backpack, however I have used them when my campmates were not using theirs. They are definitely better than sitting on a log or the ground, however I'm not sure adding weight to the pack is worth it. I guess if the hiking distance between camps is low and not dif...
