Re: General site updates

HOL is now open. I read there was an issue with the pit toilet that needed to be fixed and prevented it from opening early.

If you get into an accident on the east side . . .

My vehicle was side swiped today by an RV in the parking lot of the St Mary Supermarket. If something similar happens to you (hopefully not) and you need a vehicle accident report for insurance purposes, you will need to call the Glacier County Sheriffs office (+1-406-873-2711, option 3 when you get...

Re: Smoke conditions?

Some days it’s been good, others bad. All depends on how the wind blows. I’d say the good days have outweighed the bad so far.

Re: Backpacking camp chair?

I have a helinox chair zero (I think)? Weighs about a pound. Honestly, I have skipped bringing it the last few trips in favor of saving weight, and I have not missed it. I cut down a 14 section foam pad and bring either the 6 or 8 panel section with me to use as a door mat for my tent, as an insulat...

Belly River Mid July Updates

We’re baaack! A few things we discovered last week that might be helpful for others to know: 1. There is no cable for crossing the river at the the Cosley Lake cut off. It’s no big deal to cross because the water level is low, but just so you know. 2. Cosley campground is in great shape. Trail crew ...

Re: Modifying Itinerary when Actually Picking Up a Permit

An example of selfish people who think the rules don’t apply to them ruining it for others.

This happened at MOL. She said we could still walk thru the campground to access Margaret Lake. They just want no tents there for awhile.

Re: Modifying Itinerary when Actually Picking Up a Permit

The other thing to note is that the parks new trail status page shows Glens Head as being open. But the backcountry office wouldn’t issue a permit even so. There is some kind of internal disconnect there. I popped into the St Mary Ranger Station yesterday to inquire about GLH. Apparently, a bear go...

Re: Modifying Itinerary when Actually Picking Up a Permit

That Glens Head would be open and Mok Lake and Junction closed doesn’t make a lot of sense since all three are very close together. I had the same thought and appreciate you providing this excellent intel. I was able to come up with a plan B in advance since it looks likely that our 2 nights at GLH...
