There is a new alert as of this evening:

Here is the link to the North Cascades process that they reference:

Re: Sperry Chalet, Granite Park, 2023

Time will tell whether I can do that in late June this year but I am not counting on it.
There is a lot more winter to be had, but for now Snotel is showing that Flattop Mountain is at 80% of average. So you never know about late June! It’s possible but too soon to tell.

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Maybe a functional demo will be coming. I certainly hope so.
I hope so, too!
Then they gave a couple of examples the first of which was Goat Haunt. Do you think maybe the boat will run this years??????
Please!! Pretty please!! :D

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Have you seen anything announced yet about Goat Haunt for this year?
I haven’t seen anything. I’d love to see it open but I’m thinking chances are slim.

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

The Park’s website has been updated with more info:

https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/ ... ations.htm

Some interesting info I found while poking around on recreation.gov:

I believe they mean BRO, not GRO

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Another thing to consider is that a total of 30 permits for the 5-8 group could possibly be less than what had been awarded in previous years for groups of the same size. So if that is the case, while large groups are getting first choice on dates/sites, this change could actually open up more spots...

Re: Northern Traverse 3

Paul, Good on you for starting your trip report after me and finishing before me! I’ve got one more write up to do and I’ll have mine wrapped up for 2022. Hiking up to the Sue Lake Bench with a 14 day hike the very next day would have been killer. Smart move to just relax and enjoy the Mokawanis are...

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Trip 5: Car Camping in Many Glacier We made some online purchases that couldn’t be shipped to Canada, so I had them mailed to a package pickup in Babb. Perfect excuse to drive down for a couple nights at the end of August. I stayed at the Many Glacier campground in the same site I shared with Matt, ...

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Thanks, everyone! Jay, that photo shows the steepest section of the final climb to the tunnel, but the rest of it was a lot more gradual, although a constant up. Missy, I find that my Chatter friends are my favorite hiking companions. They all have a great love of the Park and it’s so nice to be wit...

Re: Summer 2022: I’m Getting Older But I Still Got It In Me

Trip 4: Chief Mountain to Many Glacier Back in June, I found a cancellation through the Backcountry Availability page for GAB ELF. I had been to the Ptarmigan Tunnel from the Many Glacier side many times, but I had never climbed up from the Elizabeth Lake side, so I grabbed it. A friend from Calgary...

I’ve never been there, but from Google Earth this looks like a trail to Silver Dollar Beach.

Re: A Whole Summer in Glacier - 2022

Inconsistent is to be expected. It's the middle of nowhere, and IT staff/equipment are far away. And there is the AccessParks middleman. Lots of points of failure. I totally get that. I meant access in terms of sometimes needing to be a hotel guest and sometimes not. And I also now understand that ...

Re: A Whole Summer in Glacier - 2022

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad I never asked the front desk staff about internet access! I can pick up my Canadian carrier from Babb, so it wasn’t really a big deal, just something I was curious about since because access seemed inconsistent.
