Re: Itinerary - Suggestions Needed

One more question regarding the first night at Glacier Park Lodge. That stop seemed to have more limited options regarding trails, but I thought it would be a good chance to at least see that part of the Park. Does anyone have a view as to whether it's worth a night's stay, or if I'd do better to s...

Balou,
I appreciate your comments and can understand your thoughts on this.
Thanks,

Re: Exposure!

 What about the person who was doing the video? They were (gulp) walking  and shooting video at the same time  on that little narrow walkway  with holes in the concrete floor  It seems like the camera person was also quite an actor (or ham) and appeared in some se...

Re: Best website(s) to check weather forecasts for Glacier?

I think the National Weather Service office in Missoula would be good. I think this is their website: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mso/ You could also check out the KOFI radio website which you should be able to find through a search engine. Not sure what would be the best radio station or website for th...

Re: 1950s bear attack at Otokomi Lake

Balou, Thanks very much for mentioning that book. I have never heard of it before but I see that there are quite a few copies available on the internet for quite reasonable prices. I will have to order one up! Warren Hanna seems to have written several books relating to the Park including Many Splen...

Re: 1950s bear attack at Otokomi Lake

Todd,

Thanks for posting that interesting link. Thanks to Dave Parker we also know that the attack at Otokomi Lake was in 1960 and not in the 1950s. However it wasn't a fatal attack so it doesn't show up on the Park's list of fatal bear attacks nor on other lists of fatal attacks.

Re: Triple Falls

Dave, Thanks for that information. Aren't the problem deer in the backcountry campgrounds primarily after salt, from sweat on clothing, tents, etc.? Perhaps sloppy food preparation by leaving around scraps of salty food is also a cause. I haven't actually heard much about hikers actually giving hand...

Re: Staying at Sperry

Matt, I think that is a great question and while I agree with Orin's suggestion, there are a few things to consider. As Orin and many others in this thread have noted, the hike from Lake McDonald to Sperry Chalet is a steep uphill hike almost all in the woods with little view. (Actually there is a d...

Re: Glacier trip questions...

My wife and I are going to Glacier June 29-July 1 and we plan on doing around 20 miles in the park. What is the liklihood of being able to do Gunsight lake trail to Sperry in this timeframe? Redgap Pass Loop? Dawson Pass Loop? Goat Haunt to Belly River? As a general rule, do some of these trails te...

1950s bear attack at Otokomi Lake

Does anyone know any details of the bear attack at Otokomi Lake which I believe took place in the 1950s? I think it was the first or one of the first serious bear attacks in the Park. I have only heard some vague information about this attack. As I understand it, a young boy was attacked and injured...

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife has ruled that Wolverines are not endangered. They are just mean. Here is the link to the article in the Hungry Horse News:
