Re: Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

So glad you finally landed the itinerary you wanted. I have noticed that some primo backcountry sites which have been full since March have been opening up as the date gets closer, so some people are doing the right thing and canceling what they aren’t going to use and not just no showing. teapot57...

Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

During the initial land rush back on March 15th I fumbled around and missed getting the itinerary I really wanted. I managed to get: Sept 5 - GAB Sept 6 - MOL Sept 7 - GLH Sept 8 - GAB I really wanted to through hike from Chief Mountain to Goat Haunt and I've been checking recreation.gov pretty much...

Re: What Just Happened to Stoney Indian Campsite?

It's been a couple of days since I looked at rec.gov to see if anything had changed...

As of today, STO now has walk-up availability in August & September again.

Perhaps the deer have been dealt with using extreme prejudice.

Re: What Just Happened to Stoney Indian Campsite?

Just received the following email from the Glacier Backcountry Office: Hello Scott, The recreation.gov website is showing the correct number of available sites. The reason that nothing is showing available past August 1st has to do with a damaged food pole in the site. This issue makes it so that we...

Re: What Just Happened to Stoney Indian Campsite?

With nothing heard here, I sent an email to Glacier NP yesterday to see if they have an explanation.

What Just Happened to Stoney Indian Campsite?

I have an itinerary (GAB-MOL-GLH-GAB) in early September that I'd like to modify to (GAB-MOL-STO-KOO) if I got the chance. So I'm checking Rec.gov with alarming frequency. Until this morning, STO had had walk up availability most days in September & August if not every day... this morning from A...

Re: Trail Status - 2023

I prefer the old trail status pages over the updated version on the website now LInk . While visually appealing and good for seeing high level closures, I have no desire to individually click each trail to see the update. On top of that, I have struggled on my computer to properly click on a trail ...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Well, I'm answering my own question. Last night a friend notified me that the site I was looking for opened up for the day I needed it. So I quickly got online and modified my permit to added it on the last night. I had no problems. Paul, Thank you for that report... I just went to the "modify...

Re: Waterton Shoreline Cruise Company

Actual schedule and some pricing has been posted for 2023.

https://www.watertoncruise.com/2023.php

I'm confident these prices are in Canadian Dollars. As I write this, $1 USA is worth $1.34 Canadian.

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

In today's Wall Street Journal As National Parks Visits Surge, Booz Allen Benefits Visitors driving into Montana’s Glacier National Park this summer must buy a vehicle pass on Recreation.gov. The pass is free, but visitors pay a $2 fee to book the reservation. Visitors might assume that, like entran...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Is the only way to check advance Backcountry Campsite availability through Recreation.gov? I've been looking at my old bookmarked sites and, although there is a map of the campsites, if I click on one to see what is there it throws craps. https://www.nps.gov/applications/glac/bcpermits/bcadv/newbcma...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Paul & tibber, Yeah, I would definitely like to add another day. I could add COS instead of GAB which would increase the probabilities a bit. I will keep checking rec.gov too. People will change plans and at least some will cancel reservations which should lead to additional reservable openings...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

For those that are interested...

I just posted the contents of an email I received from the Waterton Shoreline Cruise Company in the General Glacier Discussion Forum.

The condensed version: They will be running the boat from Waterton to Goat Haunt again this year.
