Waterton Shoreline Cruise Company

A couple of days ago I sent the following email to the Waterton Shoreline Cruise Company: Good evening! It is my understanding that Goat Haunt will be open again this year. With that in mind I am planning a backpack in Glacier National Park that would start at Chief Mountain and end at Goat Haunt. W...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Sorry to hear that Scott - how did everyone else fair? General comments from me: ...Looks like it filters/sorts based on available next sites (dependencies), including those “out of area” so that is great!... zozeppelin, Ahhhh... maybe not great. HA! That was another thing that flumoxed me... I was...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

I didn't see it open up early. I was online and hitting refresh every few seconds with 5 minutes to go. It actually didn't open until 10 or 20 seconds after 10am here. However, I was able to get a permit. In my rush to hit book I messed up and forgot to add the last site but I didn't want to go bac...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Well that was less than optimal...

I've got a itinerary but it wasn't what I was hoping for...

GAB
MOL
GLH
GAB

I was hoping to be able to get STO and then catch the Goat Haunt boat to Waterton.

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

I just now saw the posts that it had opened early and, muttering several backcountry oaths, frantically went to Rec.gov. It looks like they caught their error as the "Registration Closed" button is still up. If I "go around" that page and access the "detailed availablity&quo...

zozeppelin,

Well done!

I'm trying to imagine why SLI to GAB is a no-touch.

Best regards,

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Hi Scott, it is in the page where the date and site availability grid shows up- but only if you select a “starting area” and number of people. Your point is my point - one more thing to have to do in a scramble (that isn’t pertinent)... zozeppelin, We're both on the same page... Why does the temple...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Select a group size is redundant. The system is limiting to 1 site per reservation, such that the number of people is irrelevant until later, it's going to be 1 to 4, and it's winner take all on the site. The reason for selecting a group size is because you will pay all of the permit costs up front...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Select an area is singular, so if you have an itinerary that crosses multiple areas, you will have to bounce around areas with extra clicks. This is dumb. Tetons has an 'All' option, this is smart. Select an area is called 'select a starting area', which isn't accurate, as one could start in a diff...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Hey Scott, Since this chatgroup isn't read much I don't think there's much harm of reposting this earlier post from Ohioguy ... Spoke to Ranger on Friday Goat Haunt open with boat landings also. The camp sites listed being closed in Sept. are only closed from the west side approach, bridge out at t...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Scott, I think those camps in the North Fork will be available in September if you are approaching them from the east. The west side trailheads will be closed. Paul, Your post makes sense to me but... Recreation.gov has a notification that indicates in plain English: Round Prairie (ROU), Kintla Lak...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Is the boarder crossing at Chief Mountain customs going to be open this year? Paul It may be presumptuous on my part but Tamarack in Waterton seems to be expecting Chief Mountain to be open. They have their Chief Mountain Shuttle Service listed on their website with the following: "Booking Sum...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Well... I just checked in here this evening and was startled to find that things, once again, have changed. I've been sifting through the information that is available and I'm trying to get my arms around how I think this is going to work. The gun goes off at 8:00 AM Mountain Time on March 15th. I g...
