Re: Belly River Suspension Bridge

Scott, Sorry that's really too bad about your trip. The last day of our backpack there was a big storm blowing in just as we were hiking out. It looked like Boulder Pass was really socked in. We were pretty lucky with the weather. No rain, mostly sunny skies. Our problem was the smoke from the fire...

Re: Belly River Suspension Bridge

The bridge was still up on Sept 1st when we crossed it. Paul, Thanks for the report! However, it has become a moot point. The forecast weather for our itinerary (18th-22nd) was looking to be "interesting" with low temperatures and rain. I've been to Glacier enought to know that weather fo...

Re: Advance Reservation Permit Pickup - A Senior Moment?

I have never seen an ability to pick up backcountry permit earlier than 24 hours before departure. In other works the earliest one has always been able to pick up their permit was first thing in the morning the DAY BEFORE the start of their trip. Ear Mountain, Thanks,,, I must have been confusing t...

Advance Reservation Permit Pickup - A Senior Moment?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm having a Senior Moment or... I thought I had a dim memory that, in the past, one could pick up a Backcountry Permit that was the result of an Advance Reservation up to 48 hours prior to the start of the itinerary. I had always picked it up the day before but I thought...

Re: Belly River Suspension Bridge

Received a response this morning from Glacier...

Hi Scott,

We do not yet have a date for removal of the bridge for this year. Last year it was Sept 28, so you should be ok.

So I've got that going for me... which is nice.

Re: Belly River Suspension Bridge

In years past the bridge would still be up for your dates but who knows this year. There is a marked horse ford so you won’t need to scramble up and down the banks at least. The water level should be near its minimum in late September. In years past the date of removal would be posted in the Trail ...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Can someone please put another quarter into the GNP server? zozeppelin, Maybe I'm having a senior moment but, not only is the link (page 6 of this thread) to the Advance Availablility Page not working, I can't find a link to that page anywhere on the Glaciern National Park Website. Have they (Glaci...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

You might want to try going to GAB via the Lee Ridge. If you are up for an additional 3.5 miles and a couple of thousand feet of additional elevation gain and loss, this is a spectacular option. Everyone should try it at least once. -Orin Orin, We'll see what happens! If the stars align, I would li...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Looks like about an hour and 15 minute drive from Brownies to Chief Mountain Customs in a perfect world. Scott FYI - In case you were unaware, there's been construction on Rt. 89 between Two Medicine and St. Mary the last couple of years. I don't know if it's continuing this year, but if so, it mig...

Fantastic on all fronts! 1 day turn is unprecedented, on a Saturday nonetheless. Now you can start with logistics. zozeppelin, Yes, I was a bit surprised that I heard something yesterday as well. Still, It makes sense that the backcountry office is manned and, I would think, somewhat quiet yet at t...
