Bear attacks this past weekend

Two bear attacks made the news this past weekend. A 73-year-old woman was hospitalized with injuries she sustained in an Oct. 1 bear attack which took place on a section of the Flathead National Forest located near the U.S.-Canada border north of Polebridge: https://flatheadbeacon.com/2023/10/02/wom...

You can read his Gryfalcon Lake writeup here. It’s in the entry that follows the Grace Lake writeup:

Re: Words To Live By🤘😁👍

Next season, we should make more of an effort to use the Trip Dates forum to see if there is any interest in planning meet ups in the Park. We could organize day hikes or group dinners, either pot lucks or at a restaurant. Would be fun to get to know others.

Not always easy to do, but it sounds like you made a smart call, Scott. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Bear Spray across the boarder

I cross the border all the time and have never had an issue with bear spray. I don’t think they’ve ever even asked me if I have it, and I always tell them when I’m coming down or going back from a hiking or backpacking trip. As for CBD, cannabis products are legal here in Canada, but you can’t cross...

Sure wish I could have gone along to hike with you on this trip. My heart said, Do it! But my head (and Achilles) said no.

Especially love your photo of the sunset from the porch outside your room. Looking forward to hearing more!

Re: MOJ Camp closed

Was it a cinnamon black bear visiting your camp, Paul? The ranger that warned us about the Mokowanis area bear described that one as such back in July.

Re: Modified my itinerary using Recration.gov tonight

So glad you finally landed the itinerary you wanted. I have noticed that some primo backcountry sites which have been full since March have been opening up as the date gets closer, so some people are doing the right thing and canceling what they aren’t going to use and not just no showing.
