I put this post here in the General section so it would get wider readership.
I know that many people ignore the Photography section, especially my posts. 8)

It IS interesting if you want to sell images made in National Parks.

My understanding from past readings was that if you looked commercial, a ranger might stop you and ask if you had a permit. If the ranger asked, you needed it. Lots of people were pissed about that.

So you have a soft box with a flash and you're taking pictures of your wife...just to keep Pete's interest here, lets say your wife is wearing something revealing...that looks professional and you might get hassled. If a ranger stops and you're not a fast talker, you need a permit. This is in spite of this not being a commercial shoot.

It's good to hear that the rule got challenged.

Yeah, I'm glad about that ruling--if it stands, which I hope it will.
The only person who ever said anything to me about permits was Chris Peterson editor of the Hungry Horse news.
One day I met him and his son up on Glacier View ridge. I said something about maybe selling images.
He asked me did I have a "permit". This was on National Forest land too. I said no and he then told me about this permit law.

And up to now, that's why I've been reluctant to overtly sell images locally--even though I see them everywhere for sale.
Obviously, that law hasn't been enforced around here for "small timers"--at least that I'm aware of.
Then again, this past October I met some "van vloggers" at Avalanche Lake who told me of friends of theirs who were fined $1000 for taking video at a National Park in Utah if I recall...and selling images via YouTube. Here say I know. Anyway it's a moot issue now.

So maybe one day you'll see me on the side of US2 with Jaybird ,my rusty trailer, and a tent setup selling pics.

As for knowing me well 8) Yeah Jay does!

I do like to watch the girls in action on YouTube. One of my favorites is lil Hannah Barron and her Dad.
They are as REDneck as anyone can be! LOL! They live in the woods of southern Alabama. They hunt and eat virtually every sort of critter.
Jeff her Dad is an amazing guy. He can make/build/fix virtually anything---and he's a great cook. They are loads of fun to watch.
Lil Hannah is an absolute doll baby and she is some kind of FIT at 5'0"/110 lbs. She has a huge gym at home--works out religiously.
There's a video of her catching a 61lb Blue Catfish--by hand! .
She is also a college graduate. I love watching them doing anything, especially "noodling" for catfish.
