Surprised this hasn't caught on

Post by llholmes1948 »

An item from the yesterday's column of the Hungry Horse News.

July 9, 1981

Dave Reynolds used an umbrella he had while hiking the Loop Trail to ward off a grizzly bear. Reynolds popped open the umbrella at the approaching bear and then crouched behind it. The bear sniffed the umbrella and took off running.

Speaking of bears, did people see this on the news... Sounds like she kept her food in her tent.

But, the food wasn’t in her tent at the time of the attack.

Sad.

However, the smell of the food remained in the tent.
That would be especially true if she had been cooking in her tent.
And I bet she had cooked in her tent, if not in that location, then somewhere else.
It's very difficult to get the cooking smells out of tent fabric.

I've driven through Ovando(population~71) many times on my way to/from the VA Hospital in Helena.
A few miles across the Highway 200 from Trixi's Antler Saloon lies the Bob Marshall Wilderness complex.
Including Glacier Nation Park, home to over 1000 grizzly bears, the largest population of grizzly bears in the lower 48.
I've eaten here several times--good food. Probably not a good place to camp though.
