Quartz Fire

Post by zozeppelin »

I read up to 500 acres. A couple campsites closed, haven’t began fighting it yet, but are protecting the ranger station.

This one is worrisome since it could be a major impact to backcountry campers in the north fork.

Agree, looks like has just affected the two quartz lake campgrounds and trail, but awfully close to bowman. Hopefully stays contained in the bowl and doesn’t jump the divide. Up to 1100 acres now.

It could go either way depending on the weather conditions. If the wind stays down it might be contained in the Quartz drainage. The prevailing wind will tend to push it upvalley rather than down. But if high winds push it over the divide most anything could happen. The weather report for West Glacier predicts the hot temps will cool a bit but thunderstorms are expected so most anything could happen.
