Wow Pete, there looks to be hardly any snow around! That is a bummer!

I am loving the Videos and updates! It is great to view the Park and surrounding areas through your eyes and lens! I always told you that I found your videos and photos to be truly remarkable! Keep up the great work!

I hope all is well! 8) 8)

Definitely need more snow! Our grass is turning green here in Calgary. We usually don't even see our lawns this time of year since they would usually be covered with snow, so having it green up is unheard of for this time of year. We've had plus temps for a long time now so there are some snow patches left in shady areas, but not much. This is the mildest winter we've had since I've lived here.

Thanks for the videos, Pete! Bonnie and Clyde are looking good.

Doing well and thanks for stopping by. And yeah, it is a bummer about the snow. We may be in trouble this summer if this keeps up.
Take care and I hope is all well with your wife and the wee one....probably not sowee anymore though 8)

Grass is greening up?
Wow...didn't know the snow situation was bad that far north!!
And that on top of the outright "depression" Calgary is already suffering from the oil price collapse and the crashing "loonie". :(
The lack of snow has got to be bad for recreation and winter sports there.
No fun at all in Calgary these days.

Bonnie and Clyde are doing well...and you probably heard the ranger say how beautiful Clyde is 8)
As he indeed is!

cheers
pete

PS
It was nice and clear at dawn this morning. Clouding up some now but I'm headed to Polebridge to look around. Maybe I'll take a walk.
There may not be enough snow to "shoe" on the Inside Road. I do have my snowshoes if there is.
Alternative would be walk up Glacier View ridge a ways for pics and some video.
Back later...

Ok, call me weird, but I liked that hay truck going by.

Bonnie and Clyde are pretty crazy that they drop onto your truck each time you drive up.

Entertaining,

Yeah I liked the hay truck coming by too. :)

Here are a few pictures from today. I wasn't standing in the park but the photos are all of the park.
I'll put the others in "Areas Surrounding the Park"

I hiked a bout 1 1/4 miles up the ridge to an outcropping. Elevation gain was 1100ft.
I saw several couples including Chris Peterson, the editor of the Hungry Horse News, and a very well known photographer.
Chris had his son with him out for an "exercise walk" and a few pics.
And Glacier View Peak trail will certainly give you a work out.

I turned out to be a pretty nice day.
You'll see that the view into GNP from this ridge is very nice....imo

Great pics and love the video of the talkative B&C. I, too, liked the hay truck.

You and Jay like for me to live dangerously eh? LOL

As I was driving home from Kalispell it appeared that it might be a good afternoon for some quick pics at Lake McDonald.
When I first arrived, the lake was beautiful but the sky was a somewhat "washed out" grey-blue. Not good contrast.
As I moved along to each successive beach access, and the sun angle decreased, the sky cleared up in the east.
Here's a couple shots from the last spot.
I also took some tripod video. No narration. I haven't looked at it yet but I believe some of it will be nice.
None of my breathing this time 8) I moved away from the camera.
Those sequences will take a while to edit down for here.

Well done Peter...and on a tripod. Reflections like that are rare as hen's teeth.

Thanks Jay.!
That's a very nice compliment since you are a far better photographer than I.

I wasn't the only person who saw a good day for GNP. Quite a few folks out there today.
It was hard to get the video I wanted because of traffic noise. That and someone talking from across the lake.
Yes, it was that quiet out there today. Soooooo nice.

These stills were "hand held". :)
The video was shot from a tripod.

Getting the horizon "square" is the most difficult part of composing these type of shots...for me.
The grid lines on my viewfinder are very helpful to me in composing shots, especially those with a long "horizon".
I have spoiled more than one pic by not getting the horizon squared up right.
The bubble level on my inexpensive tripod helps a lot getting a scene "squared up".
That said, the horizon formed by the lake shore is sometimes deceiving.
The bubble indicates it should be level, but the grid lines on the horizon don't quite line up with the apparent horizon.
Some of that may be my difficulty in being able to see "precisely" where the line is relative to the lake shore horizon in the distance.
And some of the shots today required a 1 degree tilt--always to the left. They still don't look quite right to me.
Some sort of "bias" in my eyesight I guess?

pete

PS

Notice the lack of snow?
Here at the end of February, those mountains should be white with snow much down farther than we see in the photos above.
This has the makings of an ugly summer if this weather persists. And no appreciable snow in sight for the next 5 days. We're running out of time :(

Here are some clips I made along the lake shore I strung together.
I still can't get the damn horizon right :(

About 2 minutes when upload complete

About 90 seconds. First minute is interesting raven behavior for birder types.

Forgot me and Clyde's "selfie"

Pete, those lake shots are really nice. The first two are especially good.

Thanks Paul :)
I appreciate compliments from people with real skill.

I need to SLOW DOWN as I have said before.
This trip I was sort of "racing" from one vacant beach access to the next. Stupid.
I should have picked one place and taken more time setting up good shots---video and stills.
I like the last spot a lot because of the variety of rocks, trees, shoreline, etc. one can incorporate an infinite number of ways into the foreground.
And that spot, when the reflection is good, gives the largest reflected image of the mountains.
You get much closer to Lake McDonald Lodge, the reflection becomes too large and overwhelming.
All this is, of course, my opinion. 8)
For better or worse, I like to try an "frame" my videos and pics a certain way using natural terrain features like trees, road and shoreline "angles", disappearing perspective views, etc. Just a long time personal preference I have had for years.
Sooooo. next time, I always say it, next time we have a nice day, I'll station myself in a good spot.
And hopefully, get something really good.

Thanks again

Pete,

Nice composition, nice variety, nice foreground, and the tripod makes a difference. In a number of shots, the only way to tell it not a picture is by the subtle movement in the water. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tina.
I like taking pictures in and around the park.
And I am very fortunate to live here where the opportunities are limitless for photography.

Yeah, I'm learning Jay. Tripods make a huge difference.
I've just been too lazy to carry one most of the time.
That will have to change.

I'm also thinking I may have to invest in a "real" camera to get the sort of images I really want.
I'll probably have to start a "Go Fund Me" campaign for that!! 8)

Thanks again Jay, Tina, and Paul!
