Absolutely amazing what was accomplished last summer.
New foundation — 300 lbs of concrete dropped every 15 minutes by helicopter for one long day.
First and second floor installed, minus interior walls (from what I could tell).
The roof in very late September, because they were blessed with no early snowfall.
A helicopter was used instead of a crane to lift and position each roof log in place. They said it was one log every 2 minutes lifted and bolted into place, all done in a single day.
The same architectural company that oversaw Many Glacier’s restoration is involved with Sperry.
I cannot recall a governmental project like this acheiving so much in so little time. Secretary Zinke must have made this a high priortity to make this happen so quickly.
The Glacier Conservancy also deserves praise for their efforts in rebuilding Sperry, especially in getting bracing in place before last winter.
