I noticed this sign at the Avalanche creek trailhead yesterday. http://www.glacier.nationalparkschat.co ... 57#p107457
This is a great improvement to this very popular and crowded trail.
So THANKS to Louise and Tom Bannigan for making it happen!

Yeah it is cool.
It'll make Avalanche Lake a lot better destination.
The trail to the head of the lake is OK now even if it is a bit gnarly in places.
Looks like they will probably brush it out and maybe bridge a few places.
Sounds like they will make a few lake access spots along the trail too.
They'll have to do something about bridging the outlet creek too.
The beach on the far side is very nice. Plenty of room for people to spread out.
I once walked around the entire lake, but don't recommend it.
It gets pretty dodgy in a number of places...rocks and boulders to hop, log jams, brush, flies and mosquitoes.
And then fording the outlet creek at the end, in my case, "sock-footed". I thought I could cross on the log jam, but I couldn't.
I suspect the people who like to fish up there will not be happy with the crowds to come, but you can't make everyone happy.
