Margaret Lake

Post by danwadas55 »

So I've gleaned from other posts that getting to Margaret from Mokowanis takes a little worthwhile bushwacking, but I don't see a clearcut way to get there via google earth. I can see a foot trail worn through the trees to the pyramid creek waterfall coming out of Margaret, but I don't see a clear path up the headwall to get up to the lake. When facing the waterfall, for those that have been there, do you proceed far to the left and make your way up the swale? Is there something in particular I should be looking for route wise to get up to the lake? Spending the night at Mokowonis lake and only coming from Cosley so I figured I'd have plenty of time to go exploring here and try and figure it out.

It's not as hard as it looks.
Im in the park. Hard to type.
The trail you see leafs to a creek bed. You. go up steam in the creek bed following occasional cairns till you come to a large cairn ( when we did it). Then you should find a trail that leads ov er towards the falls.
And yes, you do ascend the ledges over to the left of the falls.
Lots of thimbleberry between MOL and the falls.
It was chest high on me in places when we did it around Aug 1st. So be "Bear Aware" especially if the wind is in your face going through the bushes.

Orhers can give you additional info on that route that might be more helpful. Been 6 years since i was there.

I have roughly plotted what I think is the correct route with the red dots.
Getting to the point where I began the red dots is pretty straight forward.
The brush could be high this year due to the big snow year. Maybe not if it gets real dry in early July.
Tis prime grizzly habitat so be Bear Aware.

The green dot is where there was a large cairn where you exit the one dry stream bed to the next one that heads towards that big cliff face.
Follow that one up to where you scramble up, angling to the right, through the ledges.

Maybe someone else who's been up there can confirm or correct me?
Please?

Thanks Pete. That's pretty much the route I figured but thanks a lot for confirming.

Great L'il Map there Pete! Looks spot on from what i can tell.
We'll always have you to thank for taking us up there the first time...i don't remember who had passed along the instructions to you but it was fun finding our way up that day. Beautiful spot up there at Margaret.

Glad several Chatters will get to see it for their first time!
