Thank you. I appreciate it. Avlanche Creek has an entirely different look this time of year.
Yeah, Glacier Park is quite a different place when winter arrives---and most of the people have gone. 8)
Access is limited but there are still places one can get to depending on your ability on snowshoes or Xcountry skis.
Unhappily, my skills on both are not too good.
Jay w wrote:Some nice shots and I enjoy the narrative. I see you have a bit of snow. Tonight it was a bit icy riding the bike (just about went down).

Thanks Jay. Always a compliment when you say nice things. :)
As for snow...it comes and goes. Snowed maybe 4" the day before this images. I was surprised at how few people had been on the Avalanche trail.
I didn't have time to get to the lake and back before dark. But then the sky was blah so I doubt photos at the lake would have been very good.
I thought it was good light for the creek though.

Regarding my "narrative"....huh?
I try to give some sort of description along with the pics. I try but I'm not much of a writer.
But I have to say I'm a hell of a lot better than these so-called reporters on the major news websites like FOX, CNN, et al.
Awful stuff. Does anyone proof read stories anymore? Spell check is NOT the same!!!!!!!!

One of my pet peeves is that I can't get used to people using "less" and "fewer" interchangeably.
Sister Mary Clement, my 4th grade and 8th grade teacher, would be appalled at what's happened to the use of the English language today. 8)
There is less salt in the shaker today. That means there are "fewer" grains of salt in the shaker.
blah blah blah......

Nice photos, all of them.
The pattern that the remaining snow made against the backdrop of running water and red rocks caught my eye on this one.

I'll chime in as well to say I enjoyed the Gorge pics; something different and you did a very nice job with the subject matter.

Thank you for the comments. I'm flattered David that you're using that image for your wallpaper. :D
I thought it'd be nice to show Avalanche Creek with a little snow on it for "accent".

I'll do what I can to get more images later this winter. I'm going to have to pick my days.
Need to save money this winter on gasoline. Got to pay down some debt. :(
I'll probably limit trips to "nice" days.

I haven't been out much this fall/winter. These are from 12/17 and today 12/22.
You can see that there's good snow on the higher elevations, but virtually nothing on the lower elevations.
Not going to be a white Christmas in Kalispell unless you count the few patches in shady areas.
:(

This was 12-17 at Lake McDonald Lodge boat dock. The air was clear but too much wind for a good reflection.
Image

Taken today 12-22 from the Apgar boat dock. Air clarity was good but not great clouds, and too windy again for a good reflection.
Image

Bonnie and Clyde were very friendly today unlike a few days ago. Clyde followed me from the pit toilets at the parking lot entrace all the way around to the outgoing parking. He then hopped up on the door window right away. Bonnie followed shortly after. At one point Clyde was on the drivers side mirror and Bonnie on the passenger side mirror. Clyde likes the door window better because he has a hard time getting a grip on the slick plastic mirror body. I think I'll put some velcro on the mirror to make it easier for them to perch on the mirrors.
Clyde

Image

Cropped from above. The last 1/2" or so of Clyde's bill is very sharp, especially the "hook" at the tip.
Image

Clyde just after take off. Note his wide wing spread. It's around four feet. He can accelerate from zero to 20-25mph very quickly. A raven's muscular build and large wings provide power for speed, ability to maneuver quickly, glide beautifully, and do all sorts of acrobatics.

Glad to see Bonnie and Clyde are around again this winter; and that they are still so friendly to you! I had no idea that a raven’s wingspan is that large. Enjoying your photos!

I really like that first pic at Lake McDonald Lodge, it's wonderful! I like the glossiness of the water.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas Pete!!⛄

Nice shots Pete! That view down to the NE end of the lake never gets old and always brings me to my "happy place".
I'll be back out that way for 6-7 days near the end of May.

Happy holidays everyone!

Thanks, and wouldn't you know it! Today, neither of them would come close to me :(
I guess some days they're moody just like people. LOL! 8)

Thanks Jay. You're right. Lake McDonald's views never get old. Just better on some days than others.
And today, Christmas Day 2019 is a good example. Just a grim day and not very good for photography.
Maybe the crummy weather was why B&C were in an unfriendly mood
:)

Happy holidays everyone!

Yeah that picture was a nice surprise. It turned out better than I thought it would.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas Pete!!⛄

Thanks, it would have been better if it had SNOWED! It was a pretty much a "brown" Christmas for most of the Flathead Valley.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!! :D
Those of you who are offended can go pound sand. 8)

I stopped on the way home at the boat ramp. The Garden Wall was lit up with a small patch of sunshine.
Not a "silk purse" but better than a sow's ear. 8)

Thanks for the update on Bonnie and Clyde.

I like your "better than a sow's ear" pictures, especially the second one. The blue sky and sun on the snow on the mountains of the garden wall is a great contrast to the clouds and shaded mountains in the foreground.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I look forward to 2020 Snaps Around Glacier.

The two lake photos directly above are absolutely gorgeous Pete! Either of them would make a nice print.

Have a good new year in the Park. I'm looking forward to your 2020 photos...

Thanks and don't you know!
I was out there Christmas day and B&C both snubbed me :( Neither would come near me.
I have no idea why. Maybe they're more like people than we believe--Moody? Have bad days like we do?

Thanks Bill. Both of those turned out better than I thought when I took them. The weather has been crap around here for weeks.
The lack of snow here in the valley and lower elevations is depressing me.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Same to you and Candy too :D

I look forward to 2020 Snaps Around Glacier.

I'll do my best this coming year to get some good pics. I won't be going to the park quite as much as in the past.
I need to limit spending for to pay down both some old debt as well as new pay for some recent dental work.
Gasoline is about the only expense that I can economize on...so fewer trips to the park for now :(
Barring something unexpected, I should be ok by June.

Thanks Matt!
I wish I could get out there more often.
A day in the park always beats sitting here on the sofa looking out the window 8)
As I've said here, we NEED SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!
This "brown" Christmas sucked.
Give me a shout if you get down this way

Hi Carol! :)
As always, THANKS for your compliments on my images. You give my confidence a needed boost.
There are times when I look at my work and think it's just not very good...and not worth spending the money to print it.
So I do appreciate the kind words.
Let's hope for some good snowy winter weather in 2020! I really like those cold, clear, winter days for photographs.
