Labelled photos

Post by askus3 »

What is a good website that has labelled photos of Glacier and Waterton National Parks. I am trying to label my photos and the mountains in the distance and having difficulty doing this.

I bet if you post your photos here, the chatters could help you.

That's true. I don't know the mountain names well at all, but I agree that many chatters do know the mountains well--especially the mountaineering types.
EarMountain is one that comes to mind 8)

It would help if you said where you were taking the picture(s) unless it's obvious.
The general direction you were facing would help to if you know it.
Mountains can look quite different depending on perspective.

Yes, I have been to enjoyyourparks.com website which is good, but I was looking for photos where the names of the peaks are on the photos with arrows pointing to the specific peaks. I am not allowed to attach a photo from my computer. They are not on a website to link to them. I will work on getting them up on a website so some of you can label my photos. That would be appreciated.

OK. Here is the first set of photos that need labeling. Each photo has a question in the caption basically asking what am I looking at?

I m hoping you can help. again, if you know of a website where I can answer my own questions, I appreciate it. Preferably, one that when looking at a range has arrows identifying the peaks. Don't want to keep pestering you folks.

Instead of providing a link to some other website that one must visit to see your photos use the "img" button to display your photos in a post in this thread. Instructions for how to do this are here:

Google Earth is also good at providing names. (but not for Gunsight Mtn but that is a different story)

Google Earth is a great site, but...
Personally, I wouldn't rely on Google Earth for names of anything unless I could corroborate them somehow .
I've seen more than one "name" type mistake on Google Earth.

Askus:

That Shutterfly site wants you to join before looking. Kinda like Facebook.
I would try as EarMountain suggests and copy the link, and then paste it in your post using the Img tool located just about the chat response box

If that doesn't work, you might consider opening an account at Photobucket(free).
Upload the pics you want to paste here from Photobucket.
Dirt simple to post pics from there.

Here are 2 of Askus3's photos that need labeling:

This is a frontal range photo taken from a viewpoint on AB 6 (Chief Mountain Highway) descending northbound towards Waterton Lakes NP.
What are some of the peaks from left to right?

This was taken from the same viewpoint and I’d like to know the name of the mountain in the center of the photo with the sun shining on it.

Were these taken in Canada?

I'd guess AB6 is Alberta Hwy 6 and that tells me the photos were taken in Canada. That's probably why there's no responses yet.

These mountains are in Waterton. I can't tell you much about these but will take a stab at a few. The highest peak on the left end is Mount Alderson. The mountain that is cut off to the farthest right is part of Mount Crandell. I am not sure of the others in the middle.

These I am a little more sure of. That is Anderson Peak highlighted by the sun in the center. To the left of Anderson Peak, also highlighted by the sun is Mount Blakiston. And in front of Mount Blakiston (far left and in the shadows), I am pretty sure that is the other side of Mount Crandell.

I checked with my mountain mentor, GNP JIM, and he agrees that the 2nd photo is Anderson.

A much more reliable source than me! I have similar photos from the same spot and was piecing it together with the help a friend that is very familiar with Waterton, along with Google Earth.
