Night Sky from Boulder and Hole in the Wall

Post by NDjason »

Just got back from a 6 day trip through Boulder, Hole in the Wall and Francis. Really wanted to do some milky way shots, but the smoke and haze did not cooperate. Here's two quick ones - the first from Hole in the Wall, looking towards Thunderbird. The Howe Ridge Fire backlights Thunderbird and made for an interesting horizon.

The second one is from Boulder Pass, looking towards Kintla and Kinnerly. Smoke on the horizon again, but it got better higher in the sky.

Hanging around camp at 1 or 2am got a little unnerving, but it was awesome to lay out and watch the stars!

Well, the smoke and haze may not have "cooperated", but I think these pictures are beautiful!

Thank you for sharing them with us. :D

Jason, did you bring a tripod with you? How long were your exposures. These are very nice shots.

Thanks, everyone!

Paul, yes, after much debate we did decide to lug in a tripod and a wide angle lens. I was disappointed by the smoke as it really cut down on the quality, but it was still fun to get out really late (1-2am) to see the night sky.

Here's a few more:
