if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes.
It's still summer and most likely the rainy period will not last too long. But as Scott says, the moisture will do some good and it might calm the Red Shale Fire some which is smoking out the mountains on the Front west of Choteau.
Ralph, is the rain today doing anything for the area associated with the Red Shale Fire?
No rain yet today. Temps in the 60s and partly cloudy on the Front west of Choteau and in the nearby mountains. No precip anywhere nearby on the radar either. Best chance for rain appears to be later in the week.

Looks like a good rain chance for Friday throughout the area so hopefully enough to help suppress some of the fires.

Hooray for the much needed rain and I hope everyone stays safe out there. There is a Flood Advisory in effect on the GTSR from the Loop to Logan Pass until 11:00 am on Friday according to the GNP Facebook page.

Winter is icummen in!
Per NOAA, snow dump Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 1 - 3), followed by daytime temps of below zero.
:D
I'll enjoy the webcams and spare some thoughts for Pacific NW Chatters trying to shovel boilerplate.

Welwe didn't get much snow on the plains just east of the Rocky Mountain Front near Choteau. But the temps dropped fast and the winds were pretty sporty. At 5 pm on Wednesday it's -3 F and dropping. Heading down to -20 by Saturday morning. But, as they say, it's dry cold, so not so bad.

The Apgar webcam has been unspooling gorgeous views.

(Meanwhile, back home in Chicago, in the second month of November, it is 57 degrees. )

According to the Weather Channel, it was 22 below here in Bozeman when I woke up this morning, with a wind chill of minus 39. I guess it's time to put away the shorts and flip-flops for a while ...

7:39 am north of Choteau it's -19 F according to my weather station. Not much wind though. Only 3 mph. Beautiful starry morning.

Lovely! Chicago finally got down to 19 deg this morning. I was blissing out on my way to swim.

Something for the January 1 Plungers and fire-huggers (seal taking first swim, with pitiful yowling and barking, I gather):

Quite chilly up there. Heck it's cold here in the Deep South for us. High today has only been 37° and we've already had temps around Thanksgiving in the low 20°'s.

We got a nice blast. Temp this morning in Chicago is minus 1, wind chill about minus 10.
Wish I were a better XC skier. I'd love to do a winter ski trip of Glacier, Flathead, Yellowstone...
