Breezy on the East side today and tonight

Post by Ear Mountain »

Here's the NWS Wind Gust Forecast for the east side of the mountains for Tuesday/Wednesday November 17-18, 2015.
I got everything I can nailed down or put away. But I think I'll need to hold onto more than my hat!

my window boards will get tested. my neighbors have always said that November is the windiest month.

In years past a 6 square foot board has blown off. found the next spring less than 1 square foot in size several hundred yards away.

So how did you fare on the East side yesterday and last night? It was plenty windy over here, but it probably compared to a normal day on the East side.
The Pendroy RWIS site recorded a wind gust maximum of 81 mph yesterday afternoon. But at my house our highest wind gust was only 62. But that's ok by me. Nice wind blown snow this morning but clearing now.

The passage of this cold front seems to have started the snow geese migration in ernest. Hundreds of snow geese just flew over the ouse heading south.

It barely blew here in Whitefish--in town where I live near the train depot.
The WF casino took a couple power hits last night and I had to manually restart a couple machines this morning, but it was pretty much a non event here in WF.
However, many areas around the Flathead were still without power this afternoon.

There's that old saw, "Mountains make their own weather."
Powerful, fast moving fronts tend to produce gusty winds as they force air over the ridges and through the gaps in the mountains.
Happens a lot around here as I've come to find out since moving here in 2002.

I learned early on to carry a good saw in my truck.
I have a nice sharp "bow saw" that I've used many times over the years along with a logging chain and tow strap.
Trees falling across the back roads around here are a common hazard.
Another reason to not drive like a maniac on these back roads. 8)

Looking to be nice here over the week end. Chilly but sunshine.

I talked to a friend this morning who said Coram got hammered by the wind, but Hungry Horse wasn't hit nearly as bad.
Go figure.
