I wonder how this snow accumulation compares with 2011, which I think was the last big snow year. Keep them coming Pete.

Thanks Tim. :)
There's still quite a bit of snow still around---even down low in some places.
I would say this year is roughly comparable to 2011. Some here locally are saying that.
The paper today said Whitefish Mt got a little over 400 inches as of closing this past Sunday.
How that total correlates with Flattop's SNOWTEL this year, or 2011, I don't know.

The weather is not looking too spiffy these next few days, but I'll get out as soon as I can.

Cheers to you and Laura!

Five years ago today, April 14th, 2012, I road my bike up the road from Lake McDonald Lodge for some snaps.

Weather's looking good for Sunday, so maybe do it again.

Easter Sunday 2017 at Lake McDonald

These are all uncropped jpegs shrunk to 1000x800. The only thing I have done to them is played with shadows and highlights a little.
These(excluding the first two) and maybe others might look better after a little manipulation of the raw images.

pete

Dawn this morning in Apgar didn't look too promising. Chilly, high 20's. I drove on out towards Lake McDonald Lodge. And the day did get better though, a lot better.

Dawn at Apgar. Kind of grim.

Along the road a little color showed.

Later in the morning from a pull off I like....
I took over a 150 images. Take me a week to look at all of them!
Here's a few I liked at first glance.
As the morning went on, what wind there was pretty much died, and the lake was nearly a perfect mirror. Great clouds and sky.
Days like this don't happen often this time of year.

Pete,

Your photos are amazing! The lake looks so calm. Love the reflections. It warms my heart to see the snow melted near Lake MacDonald Lodge. I am thankful for the heavy snow year, but so ready for Spring. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Lyman and Tina!
The day turned out spectacular after a grim start.
I saw a couple of what I call "real" photographers out there.
They had to have gotten some really SPECTACULAR images.
There were times when the atmosphere was almost "surreal" it was so calm, quiet, and peaceful.

I saw a number of GMS members in the parking lot at Lake McDonald.
They were going to bike to the Loop and then snowshoe to Granite Park Chalet!
I wish I had led a better lifestyle and was fit enough to do something like that.

Thanks again

This will be my last post on this thread.

I appreciate DaveParker, Jen, dpratt, and the moderators for indulging me these past couple years with year round reports.
However, my "personality" being what it is, arguing with selfish airline pilots and the like just gets me in trouble. 8)

I'm not a PC type person. All this "safe space" millennial nonsense, and snowflake behavior makes me crazy.
I'm done with that stuff.
Sooooooo.... I'll return to making a "normal" trail report if and when I have one.
And I'll post my snapshots in the photo section.

Thank you all for the nice comments.
It's been a lot of fun.

If and when you get out this way, give me a shout.
I'm not quite the a-hole I seem here on that chat. 8)

Yesterday was a sparkling day in The Park. Patti and I got there at 10. We rode to Avalanche, walked on the Trail of Cedars, then we rode up to Red Rocks, sat in the sun, looked at the peaks, and watched all the cyclists ride by. The creek and stream levels had not really risen much yet, but in a month they will be busting I'm sure. There weren't any Harlequins yet.
It was a good day of healing for us to get back there after not being there since early winter. Also ran into a few friends.
The parking lot was packed when we got back by mid afternoon.

Pete- I don't know the situation because I haven't been on the computer much lately - but you are an awesome dude and passionate about Glacier, and I thank you for all you support through my ordeal this year. I'm sure I'll see you up there one of these days soon. Steve

Beautiful photos Pete. Thanks for sharing your seasonal jaunts into the park. It's great seeing it as the season progresses. With all the snow this year it has to be one of the more scenic Springs in a while. We are looking forward to our August trip and to seeing you then.
